To be fair, virtually all fans are absolutely clueless when it comes to talking about prospective football managers. Go back in the annals of SC history and look at the brains trust discussing Poch for instance, hardly went down well and a lot of insistence that they wouldn’t respect such a no-name nobody and that people like Lloris and Vertonghen would be running out of the door...

Without fail it’s always about loudly demanding the biggest name, just go get him. It was in the case of Mourinho, and Conte, and is now tbh. About 99.9% of Spurs fans will have never seen Nagelsmann manage a football match beyond those ones against us a couple of years back. They don’t really know why they want him, the intricacies of what he’d bring, or how he compared to other candidates. Most back him purely because this time he’s the one with the biggest hype train.

Really this thread should be closed, fans have demonstrated, time and again, they have nothing to offer on this one.

This forum wouldn’t exist if we took that approach to pretty much every thread.

Putting everyone’s disappointment aside..

Why the FUCK do this club constantly insist on releasing deflating information to the press at the most stupid times? We literally kick off at Villa Park in less than 19 hours and you’re releasing information you should know full well is going to piss off your fan base? Sometimes I really do imagine a bunch of chimps sat around a big table as our board meetings. Fucking idiots
They done it deliberately mate. We’re playing away rather than at home. It’s a full week until we play at home again which gives them plenty of time to spin some positive bullshit to replace the negative bullshit.

Cause as a Fan base we accept it and don’t even protest. At least united protested against the glazers. We can’t even protest even by shunning the stadium. We keep lining levy’s pocket so why would he change his ways

Maybe the fans create a toxic atmosphere until the end of the season and up the ante on Levy/Enic out banners!

I'm in the minority in thinking Nagelsmann wasn't quite the right fit for us anyway. All the talent on paper, but probably feels we're below his station after Bayern. I'm a little disappointed, but mostly because Kompany is ruled out and I thought he was right for us. Slot is a strong back up though, and I'm comfortable with that.
I know what you mean.

I think Nagelsmann was the most talented candidate and would've been a great fit for our squad (which is why he was my favourite) but also the candidate Levy was most likely to screw over by not following through on promises, expectations, etc, leading to an early exit.

Basically, if we were a better run club Nagelsmann would've been the best fit, but because we're a clown-show behind the scenes, we'd probably be better off with a talented manager who isn't liable to kick off and quit when Levy starts inevitably dicking around. I think that was one of the reasons Poch worked so well here.

Not too fussed about Nagelsmann, he seems like a bit of a twerp and he has a face I could never get tired of punching. Stop messing around and get the Slot Machine in, he will get us playing good football, he will develop the young players and create a connection with the fans again. We clearly have no intention of backing a big name manager, at least we haven’t lied to this appointment like we did with Conte and Jose

Think that's too much of a sweeping generalisation here not withstanding the countless articles, compilations and insights of what a Nagelsmann led football team offers which, funny enough, is precisely the brand of football fans crave coupled with the intelligence and understanding of the players psyche.

You yourself were advocating him alongside a Ragnick, or a disciple of, lest we forget.
Compilations, heavily snipped YouTube vids showing 3 seconds of play, stats, expert articles and the like almost always mean nothing, in my opinion. I remember - and with a mixture of finding it hysterically funny and utterly depressing - people pulling out these puff pieces about "Mourinho being an attacking manager" based on his Madrid team. Likewise you'd have optimistic fellows regurgitating stuff about Nuno, Conte, etc etc etc, being front foot attacking managers or whatever. These things can show anything you like, and are almost always a shade of BS. You can get some idea of what they're about but that's really it.

My problem is the faux anger nonsense this news has generated. Fans want him - loudly - purely because he's the one with biggest hype/name, they don't really know why they want him as Spurs manager or what makes him the best candidate, and so don't really know why they're angry tonight. It's just moan for the sake of it really. One of my friends - who I know watches basically no football beyond Spurs - is currently spamming our WhatsApp group about how useless Spurs/Levy et al are and how it's all shit. And it's similar sentiments all over the place it seems. If they had even a smidgen of knowledge I'd concede they have a point, but they don't.... So I won't.

You're right - I would be happy with Nagelsmann (as I would be with plenty of others) and said a combo of eg. him and Rangnick would probably be the most logical and comprehensive choice this summer given their close alignment. What I would say though is that for me the DOF guy is a much more important factor for me in this equation at this point, we need to get the overall direction of the club sorted above all else, and of the duo I was more interested in Rangnick if he was throwing his hat in the DOF ring. I also don't think JN is obviously the wunderkind he's made out to be that's far ahead of every other candidate, he's good in a lot of areas (which is a strength in itself) but no facet in his football is earth shatteringly great or leading the footballing charge. I think plenty of other coaches are in the same ballpark talent wise as JN.

But yeah, just too much noise based on no knowledge and having jumped on the hype bandwagon is my issue 🤷‍♂️

You’re probably right. I just find it so frustrating that they’ve done this when tomorrow match is massive in deciding whether we are in a relevant European competition next season or not 🤦‍♂️

Maybe we've just decided Slot is the better candidate for where we are now. It doesn't have to be a huge failing by the club, unless you want to frame it that way to match an agenda.

I feel we are back to 2005/06 in that we are back to competing for 7th-9th.

The resources of the rest of the Big 6 and their willingness/ability to spend will consistently make up the CL places.

Newcastle’s new resources is also likely to advance them ahead of us for the CL places.

Villa and Brighton have very good managers as does Brentford, so whoever comes in really is likely to be competing for Top 10.

Our chickens have likely come home to roost and we can no longer try to shortcut our way to success.

We just have to hope that eventually ENIC get bored and sell up (although the current 16,000% ROI doesn’t seem to motivate them to leave so what will?)

I don’t have the energy to care anymore tbh, especially when I see some of our fans making excuses for Levy and ENIC.

Instead, I’m merely keeping my season ticket to pass on to Hedgie Jnr and Hedgie III, hopefully they will have an owner deserving of their support because we certainly do not currently imo.

Mason In! It’s destiny. The stars are aligning.

I just have a gut feeling about him. I can’t explain it. Had the same feeling with Poch

Just goes to show someone who s bullshitting…for the last month people have said JN was 1st choice, yet we have never met the guy! It’s all speculation
If we've not contacted JN in any fashion, well I guess that also means I've never had a wank in my life.

Might get pelters for this but am I one of the only ones ok with this and not freaking out.
Nagelsmann didn’t feel right to me.
What if we’ve had a number 1 target all along (Slot) and we’ve just had to wait.

99% of what we’ve read in the press is bullshit anyway.
