I dont buy this 'want to start afresh next season.'
Translates to 'Waiting for something better' and not really wanting the job.
I think if we go with Mason we miss top 4, piss ball around for most of the summer as our preferred choices go elsewhere and we end up with a shit show start to the season. Deja Vu.
Strongly disagree.

He’s just been unexpectedly sacked, would potentially be managing in a new league, with new players all whilst being expected to hit the ground running. Essentially; if top 4 was to be achieved it would be all Conte’s ‘groundwork’ and if top 4 were to be missed it would be all of Julian’s ‘undoing’. In other words he’d be in a lose:lose situation.

Or, wait 3 months. Recharge your batteries, take stock of the squad from afar, begin planning for pre-season, sound out potential transfers and make sure you can start a fresh season with your best foot forward.

If it were me, I'd prefer to start preseason.

I'd take a long break and recharge.

I have a question

I don’t follow coaching and I have no idea what Mason’s credentials are but I see a lot of folks on here who doubt he can do the job. He’s 31 and has had several years of on the job experience now (albeit with inconsistent coaching teams given the changes we’ve had) but he’s still dismissed by a lot of people.

Nagelsmann was 28 when he got his first job as head coach and is now one of the most sought after coaches going.

can someone with some some knowledge on the subject explain why Mason isn’t regarded highly (lack of experience aside) and why he’s dismissed by most as an option for us?

im genuinely curious as I don’t have a clue.

I’m all in on Nagelsmann btw and hope we do everything to get him. Just curious about Mason and his prospects.

You’ve answered the question in your post. It’s clearly the lack of experience, the guys got less than 10 games under his belt as a manager and we’re asking him to step in and try to get us top 4.

The last ITK we had was regarding interest in Slot. In general info seems to be a bit thin on the ground atm, hasn’t been anything since JN got sacked. I doubt we will hear anything for a few days re him.
I think we would have probably told him we are interested and we might here more early next week.

But if you really back yourself you could come in now and secure champions league for next season, the alternative is likely conference or Europa league. For the sake of 3 months work you’d think anyone with true credentials (who’s not already in a job) would want to come now and give themselves the best chance next year.

Yeah me too. But if I was JN, I might also think it's in my best interests to wait until the summer for something arguably more attractive to become available. For example, Chelsea, Real Madrid or even PSG.

I wasnt specifically referring to JN tbh.
I dont think most fans with any common sense would blame any manager coming in now if we dont make top 4.

Really sorry for anyone who’s placed a bet on our next manager if Mason gets the caretaker gig until the end of the season.

Bookmakers deem the caretaker as a permanent manager if they manage for 10 competitive games or more. And we have exactly 10 league games left this season.

Oops totally forgot about him. He prob partners Bents in first 11.
Doesn’t really reflect well on Conte, that one of the most exciting signings of the summer, can be so easily forgotten. I appreciate he is injured now, but spent most the season on the bench

And moan about not being able to get top players because we arent in the CL.
If JN is still available in the Summer and we dont get top 4 then we arent getting him imo.
This so overstated. We signed Romero, Kulusevski and Bentancur outside of the CL. I don’t see even a small upgrade in the quality of players we’ve been able to attract inside the CL compared to outside it.

Oh, for sure there will be a contingent of fans who point out we were fourth when Conte left. Assuming he does leave soon.

But I agree, most sensible people will not blame any new coach/interim coach for where we end up this season. There is only so much someone new can do. The players have spent the last year and a half being coached to play a certain way.

“Common sense” isn’t so ‘common’ in football fans, that’s half the problem. You can already hear the ‘spursy’ bollocks that would be trotted out at the first sign of trouble.

Why not give yourself a fighters chance by at least starting the season on an even footing. Use the next 3 months to assess & build rather than inherit.

May also give JN a chance to move over properly and settle instead of living out of a hotel.

5 of of those years were either him being out of club management (Italy - got to a semi final) or not in the competition. The 2 years where he wasn’t in the competition, he was in Europa League where he got to a final and a semi final, which we have only happen once in the last 16 attempts for the last 20+ years and under multiple managers.

But don’t let a bit of context get in the way of a hyperbolic statement.

One can come up with excuses, but on 5 last tries with clubs like Juventus, Chelsea, Inter and Spurs he hasn't won a single knockout game on CL. No?

it’s money, Chelsea sign who they want in or out of the CL. I do think the club having a competitive history though helps, players want to know there is a chance of success but the need to be in the CL exactly next season above all else is maybe for a few players a thing but not all.

If we appoint Mason now it feels like it must’ve been Tuchel we wanted now, that Pochettino won’t be coming back, that Enrique is not seen as a clear cut choice and that Nagelsmann is not interested (now at least).

It probably means we want De Zerbi, Ange or Slot (or Nagelsmann) and if we can make that happen and announce it after seasons end I’m happy. Can’t even let it start to linger on after the season though…
