I wonder if we’re keeping an eye on what’s happening at Wolves? Weren’t we interested in JL a couple of years ago? Done a good job at Wolves, surely less of a risk than the likes of Ange.

I’m watching the BT interview with Paul Barber, chief exec (ex THFC) at Brighton. He was asked about succession planning. He said he is constantly looking at 20-25 people on and off the field and looking at who can fill that role if it becomes vacant.

The first question is “who is in the building?” An example he gave is when they sold Bissouma, they already had Caicedo ‘in the building’. He said that you are at your weakest in a negotiation when the selling club knows you’ve just taken in tens of millions from selling a player.

de Zerbi was identified as a potential successor well before Potter left. Brighton knew all about him and had been following him for some time. So it was a relatively smooth process to bring him in without disrupting the club too much.

You see. It can be done. Just not by Levy. In the same way our players and managers win trophies, but not with us, our executive staff can run a club well - but not ours.

I’m surprised we haven’t been linked, wolves played some decent stuff after he joined and rumours he maybe leaving

Id be interested in him rather than Ange.

I'm also wondering if Enrique comes back into the frame now. He does play attractive attacking football, immediately available but would need backing (!!)

Nice share mate it’s closest thing I’ve seen to pep ball.

Yes yes it’s relatively easy opposition but you still have to coach your teams to be able to do this.

I think he’s well worth the gamble.

Spot on mate.

At the very least he would have us playing some good football.

Something that has been severely lacking at the club for the past 4 years.

I really like him.

He's likeable, down to earth, plays great football and deserves a break

He is far from my first choice but I wouldn't be against him getting the job

It's certainly easier on the eye than play Son into trouble 25 times a game, or spend 90 secs working it out to Perisic so he can stand one up for the keeper to catch, which seemed to be the Conte bread and butter.

The Dutch league is far more competitive. But even if we ignore how bad the Scottish league is for a moment, Slot won with the third biggest club in Holland. The league there has been dominated by Ajax and PSV for much of the last decade or more. He also had a great track record in Europe.

It’s like winning the Scottish league with Hearts. Something that’s not been done since before Spurs did the double in 1961.

Nagglesman was managing the biggest club in Germany. It’s in no way comparable to the kind of dross that’s in the Scottish league. It’s one of the top five leagues in the continent in one of the biggest footballing nations. Before being at Bayern he elevated Hoffenheim and Leipzig to champions league clubs, again with a very good track record in Europe.

The Scottish league is an uncompetitive joke. Celtic have won the league for 11 out of the last 10 years. Or is it 12 of the last 11 I forget. You have to go all the way back to 1984 to find the last winner who wasn’t in Glasgow.
I think these are fair points but haven't people who watch a lot of the Eredivisie, also said that the Dutch league has been particularly poor the last year or two with Ajax and PSV rebuilding. So, it's more like Hearts winning the SPL when Rangers and Celtic are in transition - still impressive but maybe not as much as it first seems.

Ultimately if Mourinho or Conte can't do it then we need to try something different. They are undoubtedly expert at dealing with high level teams, "characters" and so on but we need to get the team to be confident, establish an identity and bring through some youth to try and get some of the good feeling back about the place.

Could Ange do all that - I dunno, but it seems no less likely than Slot, Rodgers, Amorim or Enrique.

I think he's a similar level of risk to Slot and unless we can get Nagelsmann I don't see why we shouldn't roll the dice - fuck it, nothing else has worked!

Ange's style of football

I'm not sure about Ange, but I will say that it has been painful watching our build-up over the last few years.

Passes not done with speed and punch. We have only been playing faster passes when the pitch has already opened up. But they need to be played out faster and harder from the back and through the thirds.

That has been an effect of fast transition football where we try to goad the opposition to us, but I feel many teams can combat that easier now.

De Zerbi's team invite pressure too, but they always have the unit drop back and look for shorter passes to build quickly through the press.

We have our wing backs stay high, 2 CMs who cannot wriggle in short spaces (except for Bentancur) and our wide forwards drop short.

Need to get back to shorter faster passes and that starts at the back.

Ange's style of football

You know What would look impressive in the scottish league? Conte ball, Mourinho ball. Gerard ball, Ronny Deila ball. I can go on. Impressing for Celtic means absolutely nothing i am afraid. I would rather question the topic on how he is 57 before any top club would look at him.
