One thing I think some people tend to get wrong is our stature.
Yes, we are a big club BUT we are still having to punch above our weight to win titles (cups not so much). So when people say that we should have an elite coach, it hasn't worked out.
Why?
Well, because those coaches have earnt a position that affords them more resources and they have less patience because they want to win instantly. So if they don't get what they need they start to get irritated.
Coaches like Jose and Conte look at their peers and already believe to be better than them. They don't take losing against them very well and thus try to 'speed up' the process.
That can't happen at a club like Tottenham. Although, we should absolutely be doing better.
Tottenham are 6th highest in the player's salary table. I expect Newcastle to surpass us soon.
That's why we always suit upcoming ambitious coaches who want to go and prove themselves against the best but with a bit of time on their side.
There's no entitlement there from them, so they won't start kicking off about not having resources. They dig deeper to find them and if they lose they take a lesson instead of getting bitter or irritated.
The issue for Levy and co is to realise who has that mentality and who is actually 'a chancer'.
Nuno and AVB were chancers, in this respect. Someone who only had one real way of working and didn't have the mentality to fall back on. ABVB got whiny and went into a mood, whilst Nuno was too one-dimensional with his personality.
Ange doesn't appear to be a chancer and seems like someone who would relish the fight, not going into a sulk or become defeated.
I felt the same about Slot.
