Most Spurslike Managerial appointment since Poch, Redknapp and Jol.

Very happy with this, now for all of us to unite and get behind him and give him time and support to implement his philosophy and playing style etc.

First time have felt positive about the direction of the club for 3-4 years, this is a good start and looking forward to a big clearing of the decks this summer and some interesting signings under Big Ange possibly from Asian markets etc.

Ange Postecoglou set to become Tottenham Hotspur head coach

Celtic manager agrees two-year contract with option to extend

Ange Postecoglou is set to be named as Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach after he agreed a two-year contract with the option of a third season.

The club agreed compensation with Celtic for the Australian, who won the Scottish Premier League in both his seasons at the club. Tottenham have been without a permanent manager since Antonio Conte departed in March and finished the season in eighth place in the Premier League.

Tottenham want Postecoglou, 57, to start work immediately because he needs to cut and reshape a bloated squad as well as to help decide on the club’s backroom staff.

One of his first tasks is likely to be talking to Harry Kane about his future — the England captain is wanted by Real Madrid as a replacement for Karim Benzema — and make a decision on Tanguy Ndombele, the club’s record £55 million signing who has been on loan for 17 months.

Postecoglou has been told that he will have to work within his means in the transfer market after Conte tried to pressure the club to spend significantly. Tottenham want to sign David Raya from Brentford to replace Hugo Lloris in goal, as well as bring in a creative midfielder and centre back at the very least.

They are keen on James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, the midfield pair who were relegated at Leicester City this season, and James Ward-Prowse from Southampton. Spurs are also aware that Harry Maguire, the Manchester United and England centre back, is expected to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Postecoglou is the 12th permanent manager appointed by Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman who took over in 2001 and has spent more than £1 billion on a new stadium and training ground but collected only one trophy: the League Cup in 2008. Levy has been under pressure from supporters to appoint a coach with a reputation for playing the “free-flowing, attacking and entertaining” football that the chairman said he wanted when looking for the successor to José Mourinho in 2021.

The players are expected to begin returning for pre-season training at the start of July to prepare for the club’s tour, when they will play West Ham United in Perth, Leicester in Bangkok and Roma in Singapore.

Postecoglou wants to bring John Kennedy, his assistant manager at Parkhead, to north London, although Celtic are keen to hang on to the 39-year-old former Scotland defender. He completed a domestic treble when Celtic beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

He joined Celtic from the Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos in 2021 and he previously coached at Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and Australia, who he led to the 2014 World Cup finals. He has never managed in Europe’s top five leagues but was on Brighton & Hove Albion’s shortlist to replace Graham Potter in September last year.

Postecoglou has been among Tottenham’s listed candidates since the process began in March but the club have been trying to appoint a younger coach. They had talks with Luis Enrique, the former Spain head coach, and spoke to the representatives of Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot, who led Feyenoord to the Dutch title. They decided against trying to re-hire Mauricio Pochettino, who later joined Chelsea.
The fact that this is already talking about transfer targets when we still don't have a DoF does suggest to me that we might not even be looking anymore. I know its just one article but I can completely see the club ether putting it on hold or ignoring it all together for this window at least. Especially as Ange is known for being quite specific over targets.

Happy its finally settled and the appointment could be a lot worse. He sounds like a big enough character and he wants to play the Tottenham way. Lets hope the board back him and give him a team that allows him to express his vision.

WLB said we would appoint a DOF ‘in due course’.

I reckon we’ll still get one but we already have a recruitment team in place so it’s sensible to start making moves in the meantime.

Funny exchange on Talksport just now Darren Bent hosting and Harry Redknapp is on phone talking about potential Ange appointment. Harry just said he likes him and he tells it like it is, he isn't afraid to say his old woman would have scored that

Matt Law and Percy's updated story:

Tottenham Hotspur’s 70-day hunt for a new head coach has finally come to an end with Ange Postecoglou agreeing to become chairman Daniel Levy’s 11th permanent appointment.

Postecoglou, who won a domestic treble in what proved to be his final season in charge of Celtic, has accepted the Spurs job after Julian Nagelsmann dropped out of the running and Arne Slot decided to stay at Feyenoord.

It is believed Postecoglou has agreed a contract that could run for three years and that he has cost Tottenham less than £5million in compensation, with an announcement being prepared.

The biggest issue facing Postecoglou will be whether or not Harry Kane will be part of his squad, with Real Madrid joining Manchester United in the race to try to sign the striker.

Levy is understood to remain determined to keep Kane, who he values at over £100m, but Real are willing to test that resolve after losing Karim Benzema.

Telegraph Sport understands that senior players at Real believe Kane is the best candidate to replace Benzema, with the Spaniards also interested in Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. A move for both Kane and Havertz has not been ruled out.
Kane has not signed an extension to his contract that will expire at the end of next season and is not expected to do so this summer.
While Spurs do not want to sell Kane, Postecoglou’s arrival is expected to precede a huge attempted clear-out as the club look to re-shape the first-team squad for the 57-year-old.

Tottenham are believed to be willing to let go as many as seven first-team players, led by captain Hugo Llloris and Ivan Perisic, in what could be a big summer of change.

The futures of Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon are also in doubt, while Spurs have decided not to sign Arnaut Danjuma, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the club, while Clement Lenglet may be allowed to return to Barcelona. Bids, should they be forthcoming, could also be listened to for Ben Davies or Eric Dier.

Tottenham’s disappointing campaign, in which they finished eighth and missed out on qualification for Europe, is understood to have prompted a will to clear out a number of players this summer.

On top of the first-team players who could be allowed to leave, Spurs will attempt to sell Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks, who spent last season out on loan, but have not made a decision on the future of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele spent last season on loan at Napoli and made 30 league appearances as the Italian club won the Serie A title and sources have indicated that Postecoglou may wish to take a close look at him before a decision on the 26-year-old’s future is made.

Postecoglou permanently replaces Antonio Conte, who officially left Spurs on March 27, and becomes the latest man to try to end the club’s long trophy drought.

The previous 10 permanent managers hired by Levy have won 62 trophies between them, with only one of those - the 2008 League Cup under Juande Ramos - coming at Tottenham.

Postecoglou’s appointment takes that figure to 76, with the Australian winning 14 trophies in senior management across Celtic, Yokohama Marinos, the Australian national team, Brisbane Roar and South Melbourne.

Interesting line is he wants to have a closer look at Ndombele 👀

Levy when Celtic demand he pay a whole SEVEN FIGURES in compensation like he wasn't already paying Conte £15m a year and spent £60m on Richarlison.

Haha
To be fair though, if they are told to always look for the forward pass rather than the slow, sideways build up under Conte that allowed the wing backs to get forward, perhaps they will start playing in a more attacking style. Who know!

What an ordeal for everyone with this manager search or fiasco to be honest. I hope Ange works out. I know a lot will be underwhelmed but we need to get behind him. More Jol vibes than Poch and he has a sense of humour as well. Also watched a few interviews and impressed with the way he comes across: his philosophy is clear to see and an ongoing theme of proving people wrong, also looking at his time with Celtic he won their fans over and rekindled an identity there.

Players I think will absolutely excel under him: Richy, Bissouma, Bryan, Deki, Porro. Seem capable of that quick attacking flair he wants.

Tbh it’s going down better than I thought it would’ve with most fans, hopefully everyone can get behind him because there’s some real positives here.🇦🇺🇦🇺

I think people quite rightly just want a bit of good news out of the club. I'm really looking forward to hearing from him.

They mention work within his means, then go on to say we are going to try and sign about £150 million worth of players! :ROFLMAO:
