When I saw the article and this thread I thought it was going to be some ridiculous bit of skill by doing keepy uppys on the half way line, followed by dribbling with his head and then trying to back heal it into the net. It was none of these.

Fuck off Bilbao.

I love it and look forward to the day he successfully pulls it off in game.

When Okocha did something similar against Arsenal it was repeated on every football related show for the season. Ronaldinho used to do some audacious stuff. Is there much difference? Maybe they just pulled off the tricks better, Neymar Jr wasn't getting that ball without running through the defender.

One thing I did notice about the video on the sky page was Xavi taking Neymar to the side and trying to keep him out of the line of fire, I just thought it was very good of him as a captain and a man in general.

would neymar have done that if it was barca who were 3-1 down? i'd imagine not as it's a very ineffective way of beating an opponent with a very low chance of success.

Probably not, because in a losing situation you're more likely to play the percentages and play a safe pass to keep possession than try something something ambitious if nothing else is on.

The point is the game was won and trying something like that, although very difficult to pull off, is completely in order IMO - its at the players discretion and they've earned the right to make those choices due to their winning position.

I could understand it if his team mates were livid had they been losing the game and he tried it. But all this crap that its disrespectful is beyond ridiculous.

Where do you draw the line with this shit? Attempting an audacious over head kick 18 yards out is construed disrespectful if you're already winning the game.

what do you think of mourinho shaking the opposing manager's hand before the game is over?

well they're both taking the piss a bit because the game is effectively over. i'd still like to know what you think of it.

They're not comparable. Mourinho is showing a lack of respect by doing that, because he's breaking tradition. That's not the same thing as a very talented player attempting an ambitious piece of skill because circumstance permits him to.

What Mourinho has done is a lot more black and white.

We see tricks and flicks all the time. If the Spanish find it disrespectful ok, but I don't and can't understand someone who does in all honesty when the game is about entertainment.

What on earth is the big deal? He's just tried that old back flick trick we used to do during heads and volleys... and he's failed (again like us in head's and volleys) and ended up on his arse. So fuck?

And its not like he specifically taking the piss... he's under pressure as he does it. All this proves is what I already think of Neymar... a bit of a ponce who thinks he's better than he is.

I think they're all just a bunch of over-hysterical babies.

Were they annoyed because he tried a piece of skill which I generally quite like to see, albeit one that had little success of coming off, but then hit the floor like a sack of shit when it didnt work and he got slightly blocked by a defender.

This disrespectful thing is a lot guff.

You do not respect your opponent while paying them, you are there to embarrass, hurt, break and beat them. Respect comes at the final whistle when you shake hands and swap shirts

I've just seen this and I'm wondering what people think about it. It's late in the Copa Del Rey final and Neymar tries this 5* FIFA-esque skill to lift the ball over the Bilbao player, and then the Bilbao team get really pissed off and it gets all feisty.

I know Neymar is a bit of a **** with his diving and shit, but I'm not sure why an outrageous bit of skill could provoke such a reaction. Can anyone enlighten me?

The video is here:

Pure jelousy probably. Pretty pathetic. The funny thing is though, the push had nothing to do with the trickery not paying off. Neymar didn't get on the correct side of the defender and the defender had him covered. Neymar would've have got anywhere near the ball, it was heading over the line for a goal kick. Saved Neymar from a bit of embarrassment as it was obviously overshadowed.

Djalminha did outrageous stuff like this all the time and no one seemed to care

Think it was because Athletic were losing significantly...

Just don't get the reaction personally - not like he shouted nuts or anything.

Just got back from Barcelona visiting some friends. One is a huge Barca fan and said Neymar's actions didn't go down well with the Barca fans. They view it as bringing shame on the club for being disrespectful. Also said he was a diver.

Guess it is a cultural difference between Spanish / Brasilian football ethos.

Same was said by his manager and his team mates but of course...what do they know.
