The risk v reward is out of balance on this one in my opinion due to his injuries.

If we’ve changed strategy and want to act like a big club now then we don’t need to be taking these kind of risks anymore. This is a old Spurs type signing

Maybe this is a balance of signing Richarlison and a slightly cheaper winger, albeit with a bit of risk?

I think Richarlison’s heading ability is majorly overlooked in the debate between him & Raphinha. With such emphasis on the wing backs in Conte’s system, goals from headers from crosses will be an important factor.

Anyway, back to Zaniolo..

Smokescreen.

No sane club would spend good money on a player with his injury record.

This is a no go for me. Unless, we are getting him on 15-20m or so fee, this is a high risk player.

If we got him I'd understand why.

Yes, he's had major problems with injuries and yes, he looks very similar to Kulu so why would we bother.

Firstly as cover. He can do the same job as Kulu and we could do with another in what will be a long season.

Secondly for formation reasons. If we shift to 352 he would allow Kulu to shift over to be the no. 10.

Finally for potential. There has always been a feeling that he was biding his time as a winger before eventually becoming an 8. He's a unit for a start but his reading of the game as well as his press resistance makes him look very similar to dembele. If Paratici knows him, feels he could be ready to move inside then I get it. We could do better if we're just looking for a winger but if he can be converted to an 8 there's the possibility that he could be the best signing of the window.

It's a risk but might be worth taking.

Tottenham, Paratici in Milan for the outgoing transfer market: contacts with Rome and Sampdoria

Not only do you go out, though: in the meeting with the Giallorossi there was also talk of Nicolò Zaniolo . The Roma striker is an old fan of Paratici, who already wanted him at the time of Juventus. The director has asked for information, but at the moment no negotiations have been made.

Obvious concerns over his knees, but he’s very talented.
He’s got Ledleys knees. Sign him and make him captain

just no. Clearly one of the players Paratici fetishes over but hope there’s little substance to it. Missing out on Raphinha and Richarlison and buying this guy would be tragic.

Seems to be very well thought of in Italy, but appears underwhelming to watch.
(Sounds like kulusevski)
can understand the comparisons to Lamela at first glance as he appears to be an instinctive player.
It feels like he’d be signed to play in the rwf role in rotation with kulusevski. Do you think he could play in a 2 alongside Kane or son?
Also, if we are looking at one player from the list, where does he rank n comparison to:
Lucas paqueta
Raphinha
long term Zaniolo is an AMC, it’s his natural position and he’s had more starts there then the RW so bringing him in to be a RW doesn’t make sense to me. Yes he can player there quite comfortably but as mentioned, comparing him to Raphinha or even Lucas just doesn’t work really as they are completely different skill set players. They are both true wingers/IFs. Paqueta is probably the most comparable here and Zaniolo is not as good essentially but he’s also 22 not 24.

Purely from an ability point of view I really really rate Paqueta and would put him at the top of that list as I think he still has a lot of untapped potential that could really see his game going up another level. I actually think Zaniolo would be a good buy as a bonus edition end of window, ideally on a loan with option but as a main addition it just doesn’t make sense. As mentioned, you’d buy him for his raw ability to see if you could get him back to his best but I def wouldn’t pick him over Paqueta or Raph. I also agree with one of the above posters in that I could see him comfortable in a midfield 3 as a CM not just an AM.

Watched Roma 5-6 times last season and this guy played every time and did absolutely nothing but look weak and ineffective. Maybe I caught him on bad days but he looked like a non-effective James Maddison. Pellegrini on the other hand looked absolutely quality every time I watched Roma, can we not buy him instead? Lol

I read the Angelo Mangiante one and thought it was just him linking us. The di Marzio tweet that I saw only spoke about Gil and Ibanez.
