Really hope we don’t get this guy even if it was tempting to off load tanguy at the same time.

Maddison is the one we should be going for, our eriksen replacement for the AM position.

eye for a pass, epl proven, great numbers for goals and assists, quick thinking, great set pieces.

zaniolo has never fulfilled his early promise and is now a selfish, head down dribble merchant who is ill-disciplined.

I just wish we'd give Gil a chance instead of this guy tbh.

What exactly was the point of that transfer if we're immediately recruiting over him in 12 months?
honest opinion is that i think it’s fairly obvious gil isn’t going to work out here.

he has no standout physical attribute, no end product yet, and no defined position

he may turn out to be a good player but i don’t think it’ll work out here. there’s too much work to be done and we don’t have the time to wait for him.

Mixed feelings about this one, I watched a bit of Roma last year and he does stand out, you can tell he's definitely got something about him. Scored a hat trick in the ECL QFs iirc and the winner in the final, other than Abraham Roma didn't have a really reliable goalscorer last year, Pellegrino's free kicks aside. Yeah there are concerns about his play style and his attitude but you can't deny his talent and ability. Obviously I'd rather have Maddison or Paqueta if given the choice but Zaniolo on loan wouldn't be nearly as bad as some of you are thinking, imo.

Fwiw I hope we end up doing a straight swap with NDombele and Inter don't see a penny of any transfer fee. I've been in and around football people for many years now and your lot are by far the worst as far as dicking people around with transfers is concerned, and I say that fully aware that Levy is our chairman.

First off, I hope Zaniolo does get sold because Inter owns a 15% sell-on fee. Would be a small win after a dismal transfer window so far... (and perhaps you'll then stop trying to take our Italian players...)

But Zaniolo is one of the dumbest, most selfish players in Serie A. He constantly dives and looks for the foul. When he doesn't get the call, he gets frustrated and gets himself booked shortly after. Again, he has more yellow & red cards than goalscoring contributions in Serie A. He's already been called out by outside managers like Fabio Capello and Roberto Mancini for being selfish and not playing with others (even dropped from Italy national team).

This perfectly encapsulates who Zaniolo is as a player:

Instead of passing, he tried to cut inside and beat Koulibaly. Rinse and repeat the entire season - he seemed allergic to passing. It's actually amazing that Roma played good football last year (3rd highest xG behind Inter and Atalanta) because Zaniolo was a black hole in the offensive phase. Players like Pellegrini & Abraham grew visibly frustrated with Zaniolo because he tries to take on defenders by himself and refuses to pass.

I grew visibly frustrated watching Abraham in the Prem because of how shit he was.

So are we assuming this is def happening then? Or rather, he is our top target atm. All the ITK seems to be pretty convinced. Im still a little surprised he is our top choice considering everything.

Some of the comments about this guy smack of the 'he's not a mega expensive player that we can spunk £100m on, therefore he's shit and I don't want him", much like a lot of the comments on Lenglet!
Has nothing to do with the cost of it, I think there would be even more concern if the rumoured fee was over 50m, say.

It seems Conte's already proven ability to improve players is being widely overlooked. There's also something else that i've not seen mentioned and this is concerning players we sign in general.

He said "Usually you have to buy players to reinforce your team, but if you send away on loan players who you bought in the last two or three years it means something went wrong in the past"

Earlier and not long after he arrived (and I paraphrase here) he said something along the lines of we need to be signing the right players to fit what the club require in order to improve where as before we would sign players who may have had good reputations but might not fit how we want to play. See above for the result of that.

I'm looking forward to the coming season. Not every player will hit the ground running and not every player will be a roaring success, but it's a process, it ain't going to all happen overnight. Bring it on.
I am excited, and at my age that is a result!

For so many years Spurs has been predictable, in terms of style of play and the inevitable lack of ability in breaking down teams. What a joy it is going to be this year to see a blend of existing and new players, young and experienced, enthused with a winning spirit. It may not always go as planned, but we can have faith that our manger will push them on and not take any excuses.

Thats all I’ve ever wanted from my team really. Mind you, winning something would be nice I suppose.

Yeah, there was very little excitement and hope around the club for far too long. Having that back is great.

If we get Zaniolo it seems to me that Conte is trying to build a team of shithouses.
The rest of the PL are going to hate us even more.
Is Vinnie Jones available?

Lot of judgement being made on posters who don’t like this signing. Not targeting you here completely but just replying to make a point in general.

Firstly, I really liked the Lenglet deal and was delighted we opted for him rather than someone like Pau Torres who would’ve bethe more exciting, expensive player but another player who I think would be a flop.

Secondly, yes I have watched a lot of Zaniolo as after living in Italy for a year I’ve followed the serie a ever since.

Thirdly, it’s not just the injuries that I care about as having watched a tonne of Zaniolo before his two cruciates, I never rated him then either.

Let me be clear, I’m speaking purely my opinion and not any facts when I say I don’t rate Zaniolo at all and am worried he’ll be a flop.
He’s very selfish, plays with his head down, lacks any creativity, is pretty slow, very unintelligent, lacks discipline(in a petulant way, rather than a smart cnut way), dribbling is only ok, workrate average, shooting slightly below average. I think you could throw him into the championship and he wouldn’t stand out.

From the eye test, and obvious stats like goals and assists. It’s pretty clear to me that he’s not a good player. And so I personally don’t want my club wasting their resources on him when they could bring in another player.

Do I know better than Conte? NO!
Do I know better than Paratici? NO!
Am I allowed share my opinion on a player on a discussion forum? Yes

If we sign him I will support him completely like I do all our players, and hope he changes my opinion like other players have done in the past. I would love if someone could help change my opinion too by sharing some underlying stats of his that could prove me wrong, so if he does sign I can convince myself easier✌??

It's evident that most people on this forum ignore what you you say in general - but they should listen to this. Bang on. Most excited I've been about the start of a season in a long time.

Zaniolo or Maddison, Maddison for me. But I wouldnt be against Zaniolo if Conte wants it.

Zaniolo played the most games ever in a season (42) last season & scored the winner in UEFA Conference finals.

If Paratici can do less risky deal (say loan+option/obligation or cut price deal) am on board.

i’ll be honest, i don’t give a shit about trophies like some (obviously one would be nice).

when i realized what really mattered to me was during the pandemic - when i’d have a sense of dread about the world, whether or not my entire world would be changed by a rampant disease, job layoffs, etc. and i looked to football to be an escape. under the late years of poch, jose, and nuno, it was joyless, hopeless, and flat out heartbreaking to watch.

i now have that hope back, i go into every matchday with a sense of excitement and belief. football doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but it is an escape. i now believe in my club and enjoy watching my club again. that’s what really matters to me.

now let’s fucking win something too!

Happy with this signing as long as its loan with option.
If we are splashing the cash circa 40m would prefer it to go on Maddison or a CB.
