Well that and him performing well.
My my, been a while since I've heard such incisive, insightful commentary. That you, Alan?

to elaborate a bit, what I mean is viewing Zaniolo through the lens of either a Bergwijn or Richarlison.

If he can basically replace Bergwijn, plus a little dosh i.e. we can get a similar deal to Deki - loan with option to buy for €40m or so, would be a punt worth taking... even a straight buy in the €30m-€40ms is OK, he brings a unique element to our side and has the potential to improve a lot further...

if it's the €55-60m rumoured cash fee like Richy or Maddison, I'm sorry but that is a crap deal for his current level, and it would place a hell of a lot of expectations on him for this season (along with pricing us out of a top CB if the opportunity presented itself)

Well, well, my dodgy friend….I’d counter that a deal is evaluated by what you received in exchange vs what you paid for it. Therefore, if he’s shit, spending 40m vs 60m is the difference in degree of catastrophe. If he lives up to his potential and is the star he was predicted to be, people with quickly forget how much we paid. Therefore, my incisive, insightful commentary stands. If, on the other hand he puts up sort of mediocre numbers, we can revisit the evaluation of the deal. But this seems more of a boom or bust sort of deal and whether we pay 40m or 60m will be less important than whether it works or not.

I've made the point before, but it might be worth making again. Kulu claims that his best position is central, just behind the strikers. See his highlights playing that role for Parma, which is why Juve bought him. If we want to play 3-5-2 he could easily slot in between Bissouma and Bentancur etc, and Zano could play on the right. The latter also looks like he would make a handy CF. Not sure we need Maddison or anyone lese for an AM role. A new high quality CB is more of a necessity IMO.

Some nice clips from his pre-season...
Some impressive stuff for a RWB who doesn’t have any knees!!

It’s interesting that his agent turned up to Hotspur Way at a seemingly early stage. Not sure if that is normal.

My guess is this transfer comes down to how much Conte wants him vs. how Fabio can juggle the HG quotas across all comps.

I tend not to watch comps of players we're linked to because I like to wait and judge for myself but, because of the state of this thread I thought I'd watch that one.

From what little sample that may be, I really don't understand what's not to like as he seems to have a bit of everything.

He's about as far from a head-down, selfish dribble merchant with no end product, as can be!
Looks perfect for a Conte team and I'll now be gutted if we don't get him. ?

Fee is crucial here. That’s what makes this a good deal or a poor one.
This feels like your beginning to change your stance on this one.
Going from "he's shit", to "he may be OK if the fee is right", in a few days?!
Working on the start of a backtrack?

One video does not a summer maketh.

That said, that video most probably shows more of his capabilities than I've ever witnessed when watching him at various times.

If he can perform to that standard on a regular basis, I'll happily eat humble pie. That said, I'm usually pretty good at affording any new players time before judging, but I'll openly admit, I wasn't entirely enthusiastic when we were initially linked.

Hopefully he can swing that pendulum the other way should he join up.

He does seem to have that Dembele-like quality of being able to ghost past a player while barely even moving at times! Also similar in how fluid he seems to move despite being a proper unit.
Like the look of him.

He’ll probably turn us down for juve anyway. As with all young Italians
Idk, Conte is a big draw. Juve also stepped back from negotiations because they can’t afford what Roma are asking. Juve are pretty strapped atm after Bremer, Cambiaso and paying off Chiasa. I honestly think we are most likely to sign him if we are happy to spend what Roma want.
