To be fair it may be Milan anyway, whilst he would prefer a team in the CL, Milan are more likely to qualify for it next year than this year.

Ideally he would go to Real or Barca meaning Villa or Eto'o would still be achievable.

But Dan everyone seems to be of the opinion Berba is going 100%...you have a different line on that then?

I've posted this all before so sorry to anyone for repeating myself.

We've received 3 formal bids for him - from Milan, Fiorentina and Athletico. None of these have exceeded £20m. We've told Berbatov's agent that we'll let him talk to any club that offers c.£40m. We are therefore very confident we have priced him out of a move. Berbatov is far from unhappy to stay - the pressure on him is his nation's expectations, not his personal quest for money or immediate CL football again.

We may be stoking up the Eto'o et al stories to reinforce the level of deal it would take to turn our heads. It's telling Manure and Chelsea that they will need to throw in players like Tevez and Anderson, or Essien and Mikel for us to consider a deal.

Thanks for clearing it up Dan.

Don't suppose you've heard of any DM's we're looking at? All this talk of strikers is driving me mental......

Pricing him out of a move is all well ajd good, but ideally we want him to sign a new contract, as we certainly don't want him to be a rapidly depreciating asset & Levy may well want to sell up if it doesn't look like he will extend the contract.

He's got 4 years left on his contract (well 2 + 2 if we choose to extend it) though.

There have been talks regarding a new 5 year deal with a pay rise. Many of his agent's actions are plays in this negotiation.

No. That would be nice, but striker talk is always more glamorous and sensationalist.

Veloso and Kompany are my personal preferences and would fit our profile (age and price wise).

Albelda will almost definitely be an option either as a back up to our top targets or maybe even as well (a Davids, Naybet or even Gilberto figure to have around).

I don't know nothing though unfortunately.

Dan, I respect your posting mate but I just want to know as to where your getting all this info from, do you have connections within the club?

Well, of those three either Milan or Fiorentina will be in the UEFA Cup with us next season, and Atleti are by no means assured of a CL place either. I'd imagine only Milan would meet Bulgarian expctations, and they're probably the only one of the three who could come anywhere near our asking price—but they need far more than a striker this summer.

but Dan what about this business he can buy out his contract some time next year - isn't that one of the big worries?

Ah - i missed all that info...well that sounds great then - especially if its true enough that Berba doesnt mind staying..

Just hope he comes out of the blocks firing on all cylinders to help us help him achieve some success...

That's only in the last year of a contract.

If we take out our option to extend the contract for two more years then the last year wouldn't begin until summer 2011, not 2009.

So Dan

Have you heard any other ITK transfer gossip?

Ronaldinho, Eto, Valencia players, etc?

No, I only tend to hear more minor ones we are looking into (Howson, Obertan) and admissions (and sometimes opinions) of when stories are incorrect.

Ronaldinho and Eto are just ridiculous barter tools in the Berbatov issue, if anything. Albelda is probably the most likely Valencia one, but that wouldn't be a major signing.

Much of my general La Liga info comes from the Guardian's Sid Lowe who is an old uni mate.

Indirectly from a number 2 who isn't Cerney.

Gus Poyet???

Paul Robinson (seen by Ramos as no2 keeper and Cerny no1.)??

The no2 of groundstaff?

The guy with the stupid clown hair and the tickler that annoys all fans on matchday?

Just one thing, if Fiorentina are really interested in Berbatov ,I would be happy to take Riccardo Montilivo off their hands -obviously they would need to throw a good few million into the deal as well!
This lad looks to be a quality player and definitely one we could make room for in our midfield!
