quite remarkable that we have best goal difference. Only Shitty have scored more goals. Only lost 3 games - that arguably we should not have lost and we have the youngest team/squad in the prem that has plenty of room to develop.

Indeed. In years gone by when we've been clinging on for dear life in around the top 4 our goal difference was often considerably inferior to our rivals. For all the positive signs on the pitch, say under Arry or AVB's first season, I always felt the goal difference betrayed the fact that in reality we were closer to the 5th or 6th best teams in the league than to the 1st or 2nd. So to have the best goal difference this season tells a different story, and probably suggests that we're not being too presumptuous to think about us as serious title contenders.

It's not a black and white issue. I agree that there are benefits to resting our only striker when we're ahead (although not comfortably ahead), but that goal from open play will boost his confidence considerably.

Our goal difference is making me queasy. I make that 6 games this season we've won by a 3-or-more goal margin.
