People keep talking about that stupid word "Spursy" and how it's "Spursy that the one year we do this we are beaten by Leicester".

For me the most Spursy thing is that we've had the season we have, with all these positives and the brilliant feeling that we've carried through until now. Begging to scrape 4th and here we are in a great position to get second......and yet still most of us are moaning.

I feel as fans we really could do with cheering the fuck up sometimes.

Only a bit of immaturity let us down in the end ...another year will do wonders for our side. Felt we genuinely feared no EPL side and we demonstrated it by running most of them off their feet each game. What a season! It has been a long time since we were in the title race right up until the last week of the season. So much to love and admire about our year....playing with panache the 'Tottenham way'.

I agree with the OP that it does feel a little deflating today but mainly because we lost a 2-0 lead to Chelsea and ended the (outside) chance that we had to pip the leading team at the death. In the end it wasnt to be but we were always playing catch up and chase. Did I think we would win the league no, but I dreamed we might.

To be 2nd with 2 games to go is a great achievement and progress, we need to consolidate that and then strengthen the squad for next season while giving our core players as much rest as possible. The squad poch is shaping seems to be together, driven and young enough to be able to grow and learn from this.

There is alot to be said about the other teams being better next year but I think that the league will be closer next year as the spending power of the oil rich sides is relatively diminshed with the bigger tv deal. We've seen the likes of Stoke spending £15-20m on players so although we might see a mega transfer for the likes of city or even liverpool these are going to be fairly rare in comparison to the other transfers taking place.

I believe we will be strong contenders next year and the points for winning the league could be relatively low. In essence although not beating Chelsea and seeing Leicester seal the title when we have been as close as I have ever know leaves a flat feeling there is much to be glad about and encourged/excited for the next season and future.

So you also believe that Kante and Mahrez will stay at Leicester simply because they have CL football? The simple reality is that it actually makes little difference. It's nots giving us something that the elite clubs don't already have. Real Madrid can offer consistent CL football (something we cannot) and they offer silverware and higher wages. Players have short careers and the opportunity to join a Real Madrid or Barca is only open to a select number of players. If people think that's players will pass on that to because Tottenham Hotspur have qualified for the CL they are in for a big disappointment.

You're just needlessly doom mongering, yeah some players may leave in the future but just enjoy it whilst it lasts ffs.

Of course if ridiculous offers come in players will go, but it's not something I'm worried about. I have a feeling that the core of this squad will be together next season at the least. I think there is a good mix and most of the starters are happy. Verts was looking pretty miserable a few seasons at but looks happy now playing cb consistently alongside his buddy. The English boys all seem happy as does Hugo. Lamela appears to be loving it and improving all the time.

As for Leicester, the likes of Mahrez and Kante may go but I wouldn't be surprised if they stay. They can hardly say their club is lacking ambition.

I feel a sense of relief this morning. Thought I'd be gutted, but I think winning yesterday would have just prolonged the inevitable. I'm proud of our team, they are everything I want my club to be. I hope expectation doesn't weigh us down next season. A lot will depend on what the so called big clubs do in the summer

It's not doom mongeeing it's called being realistic to challenges going forward and the summer window represents that. If you wish to pretend otherwise and to only focus on the seasons positives and ignore the negatives ( and the lessons that can learnt from that) then good for you. Some prefer to look at the whole picture and take an honest appraisal of the situation.

I never said I was worried about it. I fully understand the clubs capacity and its ability to retain its best players. My comment was with respect to the notion that us retaining our best players is somehow a given as is us challenging next season. It's not and it is unrealistic to expect otherwise.

It is doom mongering because what you're moaning about hasn't happened yet so whilst these players are still here just enjoy it.

I'm not moaning about anything. It is a comment on our capacity which some either massively overstating or believing that CL football alters that when it does not.

There are many positives to be taken from this seasons but also many lessons to learned. It's rare in the modern game for clubs of our standing to retain their top players for long ( we have seen this before and other clubs like Dortmund and A. Madrid have failed to do this) so when we have a side like we currently do we have to maximise that to the full (and in many respects we haven't done that).

As it stands much like the Rednkapp era side this is another talented Spurs side that hasn't won anything. There has to reflection on this, because if we don't then it could be another decade before we win anything again.

If we didn't have CL next season, we would have been much more likely to lose Lloris, Kane and maybe 1 or 2 others. Having CL keeps them happy for now at least.

It's disappointing because we have played the best football, and only lost 4 games, but then Leicester only lost 3. I don't think it was bad luck or footballing gods or anything like that. We did just fall short but it was our own shortcomings more than anything else. As has been mentioned we had the opportunities to pick up more points from winning positions but for whatever reason we weren't always able to do it.

2-0 up at home v Stoke
1-0 up at home v Newcastle
2-1 up at home against 10 man Arsenal
1-0 up at home against West Brom
0-2 up away at Chelsea

We were just missing the knowhow to see out these games and this is what has cost us. It's frustrating but still a great season should we secure 2nd. Need to push on next season though. The squad clearly wasn't capable of competing in the EL and the PL. And I think Poch is usually reluctant to make changes in games as he probably doesn't have too much faith that the guys he's got available to bring on will make too much difference. I often look at our bench and think "who's gonna actually win us this game should it be tight in the last 10-15 mins??"

This is a good comment.

I think all of us are overjoyed with this season, but we all have to admit we hurt a little (to a lot) as well. And we hurt because we know that we were the best this season for the vast majority of the minutes played in the PL. Does that mean anything now? No, it doesn't, because accounting for all 90 mins of every match played to this point, we weren't the best. We don't deserve to win the title.

But as you said @DEFchenkOE we were in winning positions in a lot of games, and in a lot of draws, we were the best team. It hurts because we know we were so close and we fell just a little short too many times. And it hurts more because we fell a little short against our hated rivals Arsenal and Chelsea who were inferior to us this season. And it hurts more because we dropped points in draws against a team that plays shit football in West Brom. And it hurts more because we dropped points against teams that we know without a doubt we should have beaten in Everton and Stoke and Newcastle and even Palace in the FA Cup if you want to look at the full scope of the season.

I hope the players and the fans remember how great this season was. But......I hope the players and the fans remember how much greater this season could have been. And with that hunger, we stay humble as a fanbase and we stay hungry as a united club surging towards greater achievements and glory.
