I really don't care what Liverpool do. I think we really don't need more signings. We have so may players still adapting from last year. Lamela, Holtby and Capoue are practically new signings already. Last year was injury full and we never really got a team together. Left back was the only must. A new CB will come in I'm sure and another midfielder and then we are set. Strikers are not much of a problem. Soldado actually put in some decent cameos towards the end, same with Kane, while Adebayor scored 14 goals in 25 games. I'm not too concerned. A whole season of Eriksen and Lamela is what I really look forward to though.

I think people here are grossly underestimating how important it is for Pochettino to either finish 4th this season, or win one of the Cups (preferably EL). If we finish 6th, which some of you are saying you wouldn't be bothered with, we will struggle mightily next summer to keep Vertonghen, Lloris, and Eriksen. We were fortunate that they've given us another season, but they are Champions League caliber players that will earn significantly more money at other clubs than we can pay them (I made this same point many times about Modric and Bale in 2011-2012). If we lose that core of top class players we currently have, on the back of a 6th place finish, it'll be exceptionally difficult for Pochettino to re-invest that money and break into the top 4 in his second season. People can talk all they want about Levy's expectations, but he has fired 3 managers in the last 2 seasons who have failed to qualify for the CL. I don't think Poch will get 3-4 years of 6th place finishes.

It's vital we have a fantastic season for Pochettino's own sake at the club, and to that end, he should be pushing like crazy for as many quality players to be brought in as Levy will allow.

My objective for this season.

Watch entertaining football. Don't listen to talksport, and avoid all those demented red tops.

I gave up listening to talkshite years ago its full of muppets, even our ex beloved leader ( Redknapp) once said only idiots ring talk shows.;)

Levy has never sacked managers for not qualifying for the CL...

Champions League or not, if players are getting big offers from bigger clubs, they'll go anyway. We could win the league next year but if Barcelona come in next summer with an offer for Vertonghen, he's gonna go anyway. Such is the football food chain.

All we can do is make sure we get top dollar and the money gets wisely reinvested into the club, preferably by getting in the players that the manager wants.

I think Pochettino will get as much time as he needs as long as it shows that he's building and pushing the club in the right direction. Managers only get sacked by Levy when it looks like we've regressed.

I'd like us to have a proper tilt at the Europa League. I think it's a huge task to break into the top 4 this year and our best chance of CL qualification is in the EL. I do think Liverpool will struggle but I think Man Utd should show a big improvement.

I agree with this. Suarez really did offer that team so much and with Gerrard effectively on his last breath i think those other players will get exposed somewhat. I think Lallana has Stewart Downing written all over him if i'm honest.

I think hopeful predictions of Gerrards last footballing breath this season may well be made in vain, especially now that he's retired from international football with the express desire to give everything he possesses to bringing the Premiership title to Anfield for the first time. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how that pans out.

Thankfully, the loss of Suarez will more than compensate for any extra eforts on behalf of any of the remaining players. Nobody would be able to recover from a loss like that.

"Win a trophy" would be my objective.

I agree about the whole "doing a Spurs" thing though - someone else reminded us in another thread about what happened last time Liverpool spent £100m...

At a push, they have bought one player (Lovren) who improves their starting eleven from last season.

I have a feeling deep in my water, that those words will come back and bite Rodgers in the arse. Much more so now we have Pochettino on board with his footballing methodology. The players we bought last season who were once seen as a waste of money under incompetent managers such as AVB are going to blossom into much sought after Premiership players under the guidance of our new boss and his team of backroom staff.

Trust me. At the end of the season, Liverpool fans are going to be whinging like bitches and pointing their fingers at us and asking why their club was unable to 'do a Tottenham'.

That's the theory.

Show some sympathy for Liverpool fans please, surely you must realise how far they have fallen when they think of us as a target to beat:), personally I think they are a poorer team this season than last, for obvious reasons.
As for us, our objectives ought to be to win every competition we are in, my expectations however are somewhat lower than that but I at least expect us to display evidence that we are a better side than last year and confirm our improvement with some memorable victories.
Can't help but believe that Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal will be the teams to beat this season I'm just not convinced by Liverpool, Everton or Man Utd.

I think @Toela65 spoke a lot of sense. As much as everyone wants to believe that losing Suarez means the instant demise of Liverpool, it won't be. They were no more a one man team than any team ever is, including us when we had Modric, or VDV or Bale or Berbatov. Losing a great player has an impact, but it is only fatal if the rest of your team and manager are shite. If you compare Liverpool to the rest of the top 6, they still have an exceedingly good, and now considerably deeper, squad.

Coutinho, Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana, Lambert, Markovic is a very varied and talented attacking pool. Lucas back and the signing of Can means better defensive discipline in their midfield. Henderson and Allen will continue to do what they do, not always eye catching but very valuable water carrying. And they will become less dependent on Gerrard. They also have a fucking strong group of CB's (possibly the best in the EPL) and have strengthened their FB's.

And they have a good manager who is now entering his third year. Valuable continuity. I just cannot see Liverpool falling apart at the seams just because they have lost Suarez. They won't.

We on the other hand have been in a state of flux for the last three years. We have lost 4 or 5 world class players in that time and have had to rebuild almost a whole team. Players that have been available to Liverpool with EPL experience weren't available or attractive when we were buying last year. And the whole fiasco of sacking AVB when we did was massively counter productive IMO. So we now find ourselves with another new coach, and another new system. A group of players who have had a year to acclimatise but weren't "his" players.

I think it's incredibly hard to predict how our season will go. I just hope we are patient this time. We have brought in a coach with a very specific philosophy. There is no point hiring people with clear philosophies but then putting unrealistic ambitions on them and not giving that philosophy time to gel.

I do not think we will finish above Liverpool this season, and I don't much care this season. I would just like to see us play a coherent and cohesive brand of football, to look like a more unified club as a whole from the academy to the first team.

The EPL has never been stronger than it will be next season, there will be no shame in finishing 6th or even 7th as long as we are doing things the right way. A collective way.

It's not a case of them falling apart without Suarez. The margins between the teams in the top 6 are very thin and a team looking stronger than another can be turned around very quickly.

We lost Bale and lost that creative spark. We still had a decent team and bought a stronger squad so we didn't fall apart either but we did take a step back.

Teams with the quality Spurs and Liverpool have are always going to struggle to be as good immediately after losing true world class players like Bale and Suarez. Anyone thinking Sterling, Eriksen, Townsend, Coutinho etc will replace them to a similar level are nuts.

Suarez was the difference between Liverpool competing for top 4 or putting in a title chase. This season they'll be competing for top 4.

IMO I think United will back to the track and might win the title again, City will drop, United and Chelski will race for title.
LVG can bring total football to United very well from what I seen on pre seasons and brought them confident back, Moyes ruined the team last year. Don't forget United no European football this season it time to fight back for them.

Also i think Leicester City going to be tough team this year, I watched them live last season and went to watched them on tour in Bangkok last month vs Everton I thought Leicester played quite well and got result, one of team that we should not underestimate.

But then you also said Suarez wouldn't go to Barca so pinch of salt etc.

Nah City gonna be up there again, they've kept the nucleus of their team and added some key additions.

It's gonna take Utd more than a season to get back up there tbh, I'm sure they wont be as bad as last season but they'll need better players than they currently have to mount a title challenge, top four should be their aim.

Pointless objective. You could have done this thread last season and aim to finish above Man Utd...... We did and fat lot of good it did us.

Or a couple of season ago to finish above Chelsea.... Again, nothing good came from it.

There are 7 good sides in the PL. We are one if them. Our aim has to be to finish as high as possible within that 7. Outside that we have to be challenging for silverware.
