After the last 2 weeks of absolutely brilliant sport it has made me realise how shit football has become

The game has completely lost it in my opinion and for the first time in my life I really couldn't give a toss about the upcoming season.

I sold my ST to a mate and thought I would regret it but I made 100% the right decision. I really don't care.

I don't know if its the very boring Modric saga, or the fact that Chelsea and City have ruined the game, or for me the uninspiring AVB with his croaky voice (someone give the man a glass of water!) I just feel numb and I just don't care as much anymore.

Football is all a bit dull these days

I kinda agree..........

I've totally forgot about football and seeing the down to earth athletes has been refreshing

I have to say, although I am still looking forward to the new season football is slowly killing itself, and when you see real athletes who give everything in whatever sport, and some have had to pay to get themselves there! It sort of puts football and it's over paid players into context.

I mean city are nuts as are Chelsea but PSG are really taking it to another level now. It is cringing

As much as I've been loving the Olympics. I just know that in 2 months time (hopefully we'll be doing well) everyone will be back onto the football hype and the Olympics will be just a thing of the past.

People keep saying they now see how footballers are over-hyped, overpaid etc. and aren't too bothered by it anymore but we all know football is our true love. Let's be honest I can't see myself watching Handball, Hockey, Water Polo etc. in a few months time. We all love the Olympics because it's something different and nice every few years, we've done extremely well in our home country and we're all patriotic again. Let's see in a few months time, when the football is well under way, if the Olympics has really had an effect on us.

Just start with the following lines and you should perk right up...

'We don't care what the other teams say, what the hell do we care....'

(I bought the Tottenham CD from the Spurs shop, I listen to the songs very loudly on my commute around the M25.... I am looking for a Hennessey, a Doyle and Mcnamara to join me).

I have enjoyed the olympics, and the sport on offer. But there is only so much sailing one can take.

Football is beautiful in its essence. The rubbish you hear about players leaving is not football. The spin of every small or big decision in sky sports is not football. The manager's persona is not football. I could go on. Football is just a game of 22 players kicking a ball around, without any rules only laws. Laws designed to protect the simplicity of the game and attempt to rid it of any loopholes and unfairness. It's simplicity means that the very way the game should be played is open to interpretation. It's not just a game of ability its a game of tactics. Its not just a game of tactics its a game style. Its not just a game of style its a game of invention. Its not just a game of invention its a game of glory. In football the pitch is like a blank canvas and what the players do on it is art. Its not about winning and losing its so much more....

If football appears dull to you then good on you, although never in your OP did you allude to what I call football. You allude to the competition and most importantly to the media machine. The fake and overblown in football. Not the sport in itself. But whatever the case, for me it is so much more then temporary worries such as Modric and Man city. So much more.

Thank you, by selling your season ticket and creating this thread you might just have pulled off the best reverse jinx in the history of sport. We're surely going to win the league now in spectacular fashion!

That's all very nice and fanciful. But much of what you have described there is exactly what football is. Commercialised bullshit. It IS all about Sky Sports, it IS all about the manager, it IS all about the players and their ridiculous salaries. It IS all about money. There is no loyalty in football. Football is a business, it isn't a sport.

Style and invention have no place in modern day football. I think the words 'money' and 'greed' would be more appropriately placed.

Tactics? Have a laugh. Read up about Olympic sailing, then come back and say football is deserving of tactics.

Football is a joke. Ooo, what was the only sport at the Olympics in which fans were heard booing? Ah yes, that would be the football.........

Well done to the GB Football Team for living up to expectations. The very few Olympians that were actually paid to represent.

What are you talking about? Football is in its purest form is a game that lasts 90 mins all else is faff.

I think you missed the point with the tactics sailing stuff.... I could name a dozen sports more tactical then football it is not the point.

My bad.

A kick about in a local park is a as pure as it gets. Not the shite we as fans have to put up with everyday unfortunately.

Obviously my post isn't opposing your opinion as such, but it gave me a good base for my rant. Thanks.:)

Lot of good points in this thread.

The Olympics have been fantastic but we are on this forum because we are Tottenham addicts and we need our fix.

I do feel embarrassed for the footballers at the Olympics, they had no interest in this tournament, did they train for 4 years for these 2 weeks, did they hell - it was Pre season kickabout at most for them.

I have fallen out of love a bit with the commercialisation of football and especially the overpaid players who have no sense of reality a all but not our club.
