Can players like Scott Parker win footballer of the year and Kyle Walker win young player of the year. Two technically poor footballers who just haven't got the talent to be at the top of their profession. No wonder as a nation we struggle so much if these two players are lauded so much.

Nothing against the two they are both decent pro's but that is about it.

Harry really Is going to struggle with this current crop.

English football is in crisis

I really wouldnt say Walker is technically poor, look at his strike against Arsenal.
I dont think he was the best young player but he isnt technically poor.

What the fuck are you talking about? The award isn't "Technical footballer of the year". So are only technical players allowed to win it?

He really isn't technically poor at all, what the fuck does technical mean anyway? People tried to say that Pav was a 'technically good player', which I'm pretty sure just equated to people having to make up a way of him being able to be classed as a professional footballer.

I always see young player of the year awards as 'emerging player'. Aguero is in there due to his age but is already at a world class level. Walker has had a very good first season and a deserving candidate.

Not sure about Parker though. Van Persie has been truly clinical and Rooney has been a driving force for Utd. Aguero and Salva were immense at the beginning of the season but tailed off in the 2nd half.

I agree. Walker is not technically poor, he is good at running with the ball and a decent passer. Probably no worse than many fullbacks; people expect him to be doing stepovers down the line and nutmegging defenders like Cafu in his prime. . We're just spoilt as we have had BAE and Corluka two very technical defenders. What walker lacks is experience which will develop over time.

Exactly what I said you angry little bear.

Two very very average players with limited talent would not win the top individual awards in any of the other top leagues eg Spain, Italy, France, Germany, or Portugal.

No wonder the English national team is in such a mess. The talent is quite simply not there. We are in big trouble.

I agree, but I would go further and say that just because Benni does a Cruyff turn on the edge of his own box doesn't make him a more 'technically gifted' player. It just makes him fucking stupid.

Parker won it last year.

I see, I thought the OP was saying Parker won it this year as well.

I'm not a big fan of players whose main qualities are hard work and bulldog spirit but don't see why someone like Parker can't win it if his performances are of a high enough quality.

Exactly.

You can have all the 'technical' ability in the world but if you don't have half a brain you aren't going to be any good. Step forward Giovani Dos Santos.

haha I see what your saying, I think people meant his technique when striking the ball was good in comparison to someone like Bent.

I guess if we let Parker go after the season he has had in our colours, he wouldn't be short of a top six clubs piling in for him. I've seen many an Arsenal fan rue the day he signed for Spurs instead of them up the road.

And Walker is just in to his twenties and is about to finish his first full Premiership season as first choice right back in a top four club.

Yes they did - think they called him the right-sided version. Great point, he's not technically bad at all, he's probably just physically and mentally destroyed now after playing virtually every game of every competition without appropriate back-up since Corluka left.
If Real Madrid are genuinely interested in him, as recently reported, I for one would be gutted to see him leave. Outstanding prospect.
