Origi an option?

Not much time to sort out our squad.
Back line looks like it has been MoPo's priority - but front third needs strengthening too... Janssen and or Origi as Kane back ups?
How do SC see this one going?

Personally "If he's not good enough for LFC - then he isn't good enough for us" - is a pile of bollox - I like the look of the lad and the extra dimensions he can bring.
I'd keep Janssen and sign Origi.

I think it's a desperate option. Why not go for him earlier and give him a proper preseason if we thought he was good enough?

Belgium manager Roberto Martínez: "I'm worried. At his age Divock needs to play more. This must be frustrating for him."

Not sure any move to Spurs would mean he'd play more.

I'd rather keep Jansen for another season at least
I'd have said that a while ago, but there's no room for sentiment. Janssen doesn't really show much promise on the pitch. He's not a bad player, clearly but is just not suited to our style of play nor the Premier League. It's probably a combination of playing time, confidence and perhaps physique, but I'd rather we tried to find someone who can be a more effective "backup" by actually scoring goals.

Origi - maybe with the right coaching? Hasn't looked particularly impressive so far accepting his limited time on the pitch.

Tough one to know.

I also agree that the 'not good enough for them' argument isn't a very good one. I'd be happy if we had to sell Danny Rose and replaced him with Luke Shaw, in spite of his poor showing at Man Utd.

He wouldn't be my first choice but if we're all out of luck on other deals, I can think of a lot worse. Liked the look of him, he'd play more than at Pool as they're chocked in that area and we're not. Has pace. Another Belgian. Wouldn't be tonnes. Why not? He'd certainly improve our options

Is he really an upgrade on what we have though? He isn't better than Son and I think Jansen will have a better season than last if given the chance.

It's great you think he will, I hope he does, but it doesn't mean he will, or that Poch thinks he will.

Also think Origi and Janssen are very different players and offer different things

Origi certainly has a significantly better record in the EPL from a similar number of starts/bench appearances.

But could be nothing. Vaguely indifferent to it

I just don't see pool selling him to us.
I don't think he's too bad an option if they do decide to though.
We could definitely do with some more pace as an option to change games.

I couldn't disagree more. He's a young player still learning his game. First season in a new country and league. Lamela and son both showed improvement in their second season in England and with us. He will score goals if given the opportunity in cups and if Kane is out again

Fair enough. The pressure was put on both Lamela and Son to perform, and they did.

Janssen has a harder job, as he is competing with one of the best strikers in the world.

But I'm glad that Pochettino is happy to move on players he feels are not going to cut the mustard, Soldado, Fazio, N'jie being examples of players who I wanted to succeed, but it seems were not going to.

In the times I've seen him, I've thought Origi was very good. My concern with Janssen is that he appears to be still carrying too much bulk.

Both decent players, neither is going to be the top scorer in the league or even first choice at Spurs. I've long believed Janssen can come good but that's good in the sense of back up for Kane. Origi and Janssen not a lot in it for me.

Janssen has good touch, can hold the ball up well, is strong (bulk but not fat) and can shoot fiercely with either foot. he's that kind of striker - he'll never have pace.
Kane is of that mould but better (but does not have pace).
Horses for courses - we need a striker with some pace to give us a different attacking dimension when needed.
At the level we wish to get to - we need more that our best starting X1 and more options off the bench.
This (I hate to say it) is where Jose Mo excels and the massive European clubs - whom we aspire to match, excel and use youth of the bench at critical moments in games.
If we go through this season trying to play the same starting X1 every weekend and then use them again in Clge matches - we'll struggle. (Especially at Wembley).

Sorry Sweetsman - I've rambled! I only intended to comment on bulk! ;-)

The reason for mentioning bulk is that I think it is hindering his pace. It's pace over short distances that matters.
