It seems Wimmer is 1st choice at Koln(?) so I can't see him coming here to play second fiddle to Verts (?)

Don't know what Wimmer will become or what Pochettiino think he'll play.
But you never tell a player you want to sign that he'll be second fiddle,
you tell him what he need to hear to sign the contract,
then it's up to Wimmer to force himself into the team through performance and attitude.
If he's not here to be second fiddle, then great, prove it.

vertonghen is not that good of a centre back. he's kinda like a jack of all trades. i don't mind selling him if we get a good price.i rather have someone who focus on defending that a footballer who can kinda defend.

For those that can't see what a liability Jan Vertonghen is makes me wonder... You'll alway hear the same bloody argument that he made the team of the season in his debut season, there's were the rationale been distorted and the sentiment gets in the way to the realisation. Verts made that team (and stats play a big part) playing mainly at left back..We can argue Vertonghen is probably a better left back.

Other excuses have been made to defend Superman like the constant attacks on Mason particularly and Bentlaeb, not protecting our CB's then it's all the different partnership.... Imo Jans not cut out to be a dominant CB in this league other league maybe.
He was great when he first joined but that was more as an attacking LB, I don't feel comfortable with him at CB like I did when we had King or even to an extent Dawson Jan doesn't command that same presence or organisation. We need a fucking leader back there who we can depend upon.

How easily did Remy just absolutely do Jan earlier this year, it was embaressing. Him nor Fazio good enough in my opinion we should build around Dier and hopefully Wimmer is good.

How do you think Rose did last season then?
Not as good as this year but still better than Davies IMO.
And that is not me jumping on the Rose bandwagon this year I felt Davies was yet another signing we didn't need it was like when we signed Bentley and we already had Lennon £10million overpriced waste of money.

I don't think Davies has been terrible but we sure paid a lot of dough for him.

Well, in my opinion, Davies was better than Rose last season. We needed another Left-Back, and we got a good young LB in Davies.

And anyway, I'm pretty sure he was part of a swap deal, so technically we didn't pay for him.

We certainly needed another left back to challenge Rose and all credit to Rose for rising to the challenge.

Davies is a steady Eddie, what we paid was slightly over his value but it was worth it because Rose is now a 15M player

I know this isn't the point of this thread but I would love to go all out and spend big-ish money on John Stones.

But anyway:

Verts
Dier
Fazio
Wimmer
Alderwiereld (sp)

Should be decent enough.

Just going to reiterate the first part of my post after part of the game today... would be a great signing,

Good to know that England's future defensively is secure. We've got upcoming full-backs and CBs, so I'm happy.
