My word.

Some of the reactions on the deadline day thread are simply embarrassing. 'Levy out', 'Levy's fucked it up' and so on. Not enough facepalms in the world.

Vertonghen, Ajax's captain, 25 years old and destined to just get better and better. As good with the ball at his feet as you could ever hope to see from a CB, and capable of turning defence into attack in an instant.

Siggurdson, 7 goals in 18 games for Swansea last season, wanted by his old manager at Liverpool, and still only 22 years old.

Adebayor, who appears to have fallen in love with us after scoring a goal every other game last season.

Dembele, consistently excellent for Fulham, to the point that Alex Ferguson wanted him at Man U. But he chose us. 25 years old.

Lloris, one of the hottest young keepers in the world, and well placed now to learn from Brad's vast experience.

New contracts for Bale and Defoe.

And now Clint Dempsey. 29 years old so not one for the future, but one of the most tenacious attackers in the league, hard as nails, works his balls off and has an aggressive instinct for the goal. His club's player of the season for the second season in a row, and 4th on the football writers list behind RVP, Rooney and Scholes.

Yeah, we still need to fill the Modric void. Ideally, we need Moutinho. If we get him, we'll be top three contenders at the least. But even if we don't, we're looking damn strong.

Analysis, opinion, and criticism is fine. But "Levy out"? Really? o_O

World class keeper - Lloris.
Soon-to-be world class centre back - Verts.
Very promising young and exciting CAM - Siggy.
Exciting, versatile CM/CAM, proven - Dembele.
Proven, goalscoring CAM - Dempsey.
Very, very good striker who loves playing at Spurs and bagged 29 points last season - Ade.
Good fullback - Naughton.
Future centre back maestro - Caulker.

We'll be fine this season!

Wish people would stop harping on about King. It's irrelevant as he was gone either way.

Phew, so glad to see that some common sense prevails.

People got their heads turned early in the window by certain ITKs throwing around names like Falcao, Llorente, etc But prior to the window if you'd have asked most people would they be happy with a window bringing in those 6 players I would like to think most would be over the moon.

Of course I'm gutted to see Modric and VDV leave, but Jesus this was still a good bloody window with some cracking incoming player.

In a 45 minute game against Man City, I'd go for the former. In a 90 minute game against Stoke I'd honestly go for the latter.

Like I said, we do have a Modric sized void that needs filling. VDV, not so much - Siggy will fit that gap. And Verts will be a more than adequate replacement for The King. Yeah, we need that creative spark in MF. But even without it we'll be pretty damn good, and pushing for top 4 again.

Time will tell.
I'm not sure why we went for sig and dempsey though?

surely we should have gone for an out and out striker or a wing cover option who can play up front?

You think that's it for tonight?

Sig can play Rafa's role, and whilst not as inspirational (yet - he's 22), will work harder, play the full 90, and exert more influence on the game.

Dempsey, IMO, has been signed because we need a striker and others fell through. I know he's been playing midfield recently, but he's very capable of playing up top too.

Who knows? Hope not. We still need that creative spark, ideally. But we'll be okay even if not.

Between them they scored almost 30 goals last year.....and both for substantially weaker teams. You can't deny that we have been seriously lacking goals.

Best transfer window for a long time for me. Disappointing to see Rafa go (Modders was a dead cert anyway) but I can understand why. Dembele, LLoris, Sigurdsson and Vertonghen are good, young players that can get even better and fit this system that AVB is after. Ade did great last year and we know he can work with the team and Dempsey is a proven goalscorer.

These figures are all maximum values as far as I know.

Dembele = 15mil
Dempsey = 6mil
Lloris = 12mil
Sigg = 8mil
Ade = 5mil
Verts = 10mil

Total = 57mil

Modric = 33mil (could not keep even if we wanted to)
VDV = 10mil (had to go due to family reasons)
Pienaar = 4.5mil (could not settle in London, shame)
Corluka = 5.5mil (was third choice)
Kranjcar = 7mil (Never going to get a game unless an injury crisis to our midfield)
Gio = 1.5mil (same as above)
Bassong = 3.5mil (same as above except defence of course)

Total = 65mil

I think well done DL :)

Weakened the team but very pleased with two signings. Lloris and Dembele. Verts could be an excellent buy too, time will tell.

I don't think Sigurdsson will cut it at Tottenham. I just don't think he is good enough. Dempsey was a bargain and a typical Levy last day special.

Underwhelmed if I'm honest but here's hoping for a good season. One bonus is, all the "ITK's" have had a shocker ( not surprising )
Certain ones were believing their own hype...

Would have loved another natural winger. Get the impression Shaktar were not willing to negotiate on Willian and we couldn't risk 20 million on him. No one seemed able to agree a deal for Remy. And we weren't really linked with any other options

turned down £40million last year for Modric and something like £6million for Gio that's £11million down the pan!
and what happened to the £30 million from our champions league run the previous year and the crouch keane palicios hutton and pav money?

We will field a very good team imo.

Lloris
Walker - Kaboul - Verts - Benny
Sandro - Dembele - Gylfi
Dempsey - Ade - Bale

Good bench with a couple impact players in:
Friedel, Gallas, Caulker, Livermore, Parker, Lennon and Defoe (guess players like Carroll, Towsend, Dawson might be here to, but overall good cover is my point)

This team have a very good back 5, hard working midfield and lots of goals in it. We are in much better shape than Arsenal and Liverpool imo.

We should also be great on corners now, Gylfis precise deliveries and so many big and powerful players in there to score.

I think the best way to summarise this window is good 'Business'.

Players sold for profits. Huge discounts on the incomings.
£4million for Berba, must have had DL sniffing.

Good 'football' as well IMO.

We'll know for sure in 10 games time I guess, but despite lacking as much individual flair I think we're a much more convincing team now. If AVB lets Bale roam free (as it seems he might), then maybe he can provide that spark. Siggy, Dembele and Dempsey are hardly boring players too.
