So now that we know where we stand, its time to look forward. Keane and Berbatov want out, and i for one never want a player in our shirt, who doesn't want to be here. No matter how good they are. Theres no doubting the quality of these two players, but we built the team for them. Open attacking football with plenty of chances falling for both of them. For all the quality the two had, one thing was missing, an out and out striker/predator.

If we hadn't been so gung-ho in attack at times, would they have scored anything like the number of goals they got? For all the quality they possess, did they really kill teams off when we were 1-0 up. As great as they were together, i cant help but feel that we still missed the killer instincts up front.

We will be uber rich from the sale of these two. Personally, i think its the perfect time to change the formation. It was mentioned recently that we could go with the 4-2-3-1 formation. The more i thought about it, the more i think its the best way forward. Take Giovani. He can play on the wings, but we will only get the best from him as a number 10 (coincidently Keanos number) in the middle.

So now would be a good time to get a left winger. I have a good feeling that we can pull off the Capel transfer. We've been linked for a long time now, we had a bid rejected and the player has still not ruled out a move. He's the kind of young exciting winger that we've been crying out for. Very quick, skillful, great crosser, great tenacity and he can become a frequent goalscorer.

Right wing isn't as important, but we're clearly looking to sign Bentley. I really like him myself and i think he would be a great addition to the team. He offers something totally different to Lennon, and both he and Lennon will suit different types of opposition. Bentley has more goals in him at the moment though. We'll need that with 1 striker.

Up front we need someone quick and powerful. I know Bent is capable of playing this role, but we'll need someone else aswell. I'm sure we'll try to sign a top class player. David Villa is a slight possibility. He looks likely to stay at Valencia at the moment, but with cash to burn, we could launch a high bid. He wont be playing in the Champions League at the moment with Valencia either, so we might stand a chance. Then theres Eto'o. Nobody has put up the money yet. This could be our chance to have one more attempt. He would be best suited to the formation, as he plays there for Barcelona. Maybe the most realistic would be Huntelaar. He's still young (similar age to Berbatov when he joined) and there still seems to be a lack of offers for him. People will doubt him to step up to the Premier League, but when you watch the goals he scores, it really doesn't matter who the opposition are. Most of them are unstoppable.

As long as we get a top quality midfielder alongside Modric, i think the formation will work. I have to say that we have the best manager for the situation. Juande Ramos had the same problem at Sevilla. What he did so well though was build a team. On paper they didn't look great, but together they played some of the most attractive football in Europe. They won trophies and qualified for the Champions League. Now i know the top 4 will be tougher in England, but i'm still very optimistic about the future. I even think that we can build a better team through the sale of these two, and get a predator up front aswell. All in all, i think we'll succeed.

So what does everyone think we should do with the money. We're going to have to act quick. Do we sign a new strikeforce, rely on Bent and 1 new striker or change formation?

I don't think that they lacked anything personally, and I will admit that I think this will be a real test for the rest of the team!!

With regards to what we do now, I think Ramos may go for Santa Cruz, Eto'o or someone with a 'big' name. He may also get a complimentary player, we need 4 players really (Bent & 2 with Gio) because of the amount of games we'll play!

I'd be very happy with Huntelaar if we go 1-up. Or if the club considers Pekhart to be good enough then go 2-up with Huntelaar and Bent, and sign another, slightly cheaper striker to compete and perhaps Pekhart can step up for 4th striker spot. Despite most fans who watch reserve games not being impressed with him, the management seem to like him.

A top quality DM if we go 1-up too.

Jesus we'll have virtually a brand new squad, what with Bale and Ekotto playing so few games the last 10 months or so.

I don't have high hopes for this season, despite who we get in. Man City showed last season that with too many new players it's hard to go the distance.

Ofcourse we are all upset, we will be a worse team without the two... that much cant be debated. But I think the formation suggested is the way to go. If I were incharge I would seriously look at Diego Milito for that one upfront role, along with Bent being retained. But on the subject of no out and out goalscorer... I would like to bet anyone on here that if he stays fit all season, Berba will score 30 goals plus easy in all comps next season for United...

Thinking about some of the things Ramos said in his press conference a few days ago leads me to believe that anyone we now bring in will be young - early twenties.
That pretty much rules out - Eto'o(27),Arshavin(27),Albelda(30),Barry(27),Milito(29) and probably Alonso and Pavlyuchenko(both 26) - as their current value is also too high and there would be little financial return in a few years.
Possibilies are Capel,Bentley,Veloso,Huntelaar and De La Red although everyone of them would command a pretty hefty fee!
Any other candidates?

Ramos said the idea is to bring in young talent, but he did not say he wouldnt bring in experienced players.

Personally i would be happy with Huntelaar and bent as our striking options, with dos santos and possibly peckhart as cover

Adriano from Inter. I think Ramos could do with him what he did with Kanoute. If he could get him back to his fitness/form of a few years ago we would have the best striker in the world and one perfectly suited to the lone striker role.

I'd like to see Kanoute back. Im sure him and Bent would be a good pairing. The craft and hold up play of freddie and the power and pace of bent. Although Arshavin would be my first choice, its very unlikely we'd get him.

Yeah, for 1 in 5 games.

Kanoute is not the answer. But I have no smart alec alternative option. I simply don't know.

I don't expect Bent needed any more pressure, but he's got to be under it now. He'll be leading our line next year - and there's part of me that's really looking forward to that. The lad has an eye for goal, and still collected a few critical goals last year.

I still don't think Liverpool have the funds for Barry and Keane, even if they sell Alonso. I think they'll sign Barry but there's no way in hell Levy will let Keane go to Liverpool now even if they magically find the money. I have a feeling it will be Bent + Keane up top next year.

Why am I rocking backwards and forwards when I write this?

:-(

If Levy won't sell Keane then it was pretty stupid of him to publicly imply Keane is now a negative influence and wants out - I'm afraid his gone

My suggestions:
Kanoute
Milito
Humberto Suazo
Pandev
Podolski
Luis Garcia (Espanyol)
Bafetimbi Gomis

I would have Santa Cruz over any of those

Well, seeing as he's only been at Blackburn for one season, I think there's fat chance we'll be signing him for anything less than horrendous silly money. So, I think at least we should try and be as realistic as possible when naming targets.

Only Eto'o would make me feel less miserable about this whole bullshit situation.
