Hi,

My cousin's best mate works with the ground staff at Celtic Park and he said that Owen Coyle has been signed as their new manager already. He is usually quite reliable with the information he gives me but I'm not too sure what to make of this one.

It seems like a strange choice that Coyle would leave Burnley just as they have gotten to the Prem for the first time in 33 years. The work he has done with them this season is top drawer and I can't see why he would give up the so early. On the other hand he may see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to manage Celtic and feels he has to take it now or never.

Either way I think he is a very good manager and will do a terrific job up there.

What are your thoughts?

if he leaves Burnley now he is a tosspot. who wants to manage Celtic anyway?????

I hear Slaven Bilic is interested in the job and he's one of the best up and coming young managers in world football so does that answer your question?

the scottish league is a joke. even the big firm(admitedly I cheer for rangers vs celtic) both clubs would be in the bottom half of the premiership.

the burnley fans love coyle. They gave him his start in management in england. show some loyalty and at least stay in season.

Hmm, relegation battle with the weakest squad in the league or Champions League, chance of a title (not to mention various cups), an international profile, playing in front of 50k+ crowds every week who already love you...

...not to mention probably trebling his salary.

Seriously, what would you do?

stay at burnley. managing Burnley learning his trade until a top 10 club in the premiership come in for him. If he goes to celtic wins nothing and gets sacked after 1 season his career is in shambles.

show some loyalty he has just got them promoted to leave them now would be awful to their supporters.

He can still be a shambles if he does a Derby with Burnley. He's going to have the self-belief (and players and backing) to succeed with Celtic, so he'll back himself to be a success.

And look at Strachan. He is highly courted around Europe as other successful managers from the SPL have been.

It sucks from a moral/honourable point of view, but surely you can't deny the attraction of working at one of the biggest clubs in the world? Maybe you've not experienced a Glasgow derby? Or enjoyed a midweek, floodlit Champions League match against, say, Barcelona?

There has been no announcement on any reputable sites relating to him signing so it is possible that this is just dud information / embellishment of the story linking him to Celtic.

It would be a shame for Burnley, and you would fancy them going striaght back down if he did leave, but surely no-one can deny it wouldn't be of interest????

For his career, it's a huge move!!

Since when has loyalty been a deciding factor in football?

Would look good on his CV but I hope he gives the Premier League a crack first.

I could see why he would want to go, especially with him being a scotsman, as managing Celtic or Rangers I guess would be a pretty big deal.

Although I'm pretty sure I saw it reported that he has confirmed he is staying with Burnley.

Wonder why Strachen quit?

He's apparently gone on holiday and confirmed he has a job to do with Burnley in the premiership. It was on SSN.

He's Irish  (well he played for us anyway which does make Celtic a big deal to him)

So did Tony Cascarino, Andy Townsend, Mick McCarthy, Chris Hughton and Jason McAteer who clearly aren't Irish at all...
