He may well turn into a star in a few years but, given the likelihood that neither Nasri nor Fabregas will be at their best even if they keep them, they need someone who can fill that void in the coming season. A 17 year-old from Southampton is not that someone.

Also, if Arsenal fans were already moaning that Wenger needs to sign proven quality and not stubbornly stick to his policy of buying potential, this latest signing is likely to infuriate them further.

i know people say 12m up to 15m is a lot but if he stays there for 5+ years then its a great deal for him. looking forward to seeing him just a shame its for the scum

I know he's as big a **** as most of the Arsenal side, but Steve Claridge was absolutely tearing it in to them for signing him for £12m.

Read an interview with him about why he picked Arsenal from the "host of big teams" interested in him. Was it because they were the only bidders perhaps?

I like that Wenger signes the English based players rather than the french/africans.
He has actually failed most of the times with british signings.
