Spurs set for battle over Roma striker
Serie A high-flyers Fiorentina are ready to battle with Juventus and Spurs for Roma hitman Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
The forward, who is in his second season at Roma, has already struck nine league goals this term and is close to matching his tally of 11 from last year.
The Argentina-born striker, who has been capped six times by Italy, was on Spurs’ radar during the summer but ended up staying in the Italian capital.
Fiorentina have enjoyed a strong start to the season and want to add more firepower next month as they look to sustain their challenge for a Champions League place.
La Nazione claim the Florence side are seeking to raid their Serie A rivals for the 26-year-old, but Roma are reluctant to sell.
However, Fiorentina could test their resolve with a £12m offer in January

This is the guy I felt would be a good back-up plan to missing out on a Llorente/Aubameyang/etc.

He's a quality player who could provide goals for us.

I do believe he punched Eric Lamela (his own teammate) at one point. So there's that.

He's a pretty true center forward.

Strong, decent-enough pace to be able to turn and get space on a defender, strong in the air, really good finishing, but his positioning sometimes can leave a little to be desired. But, if he does get on the end of a ball it's usually going to be on frame. He's a quality player who is a bit selfish with his chances, but has really improved over the past couple of years.

I think the biggest thing for him might be his temper. The issue with punching Eric Lamela, and he also has a couple of red cards this season.

Just seconds into the beginning of the second half of Tuesday’s International World Cup Qualifying match againstDenmark, Osvaldo carelessly swung his arm back and struck Danish player,Stokholm, in the face. For his actions, Osvaldo earned a second yellow card and was ejected from the match, forcing Italy to play a man down for 45 minutes.

This incident marks the second time Osvaldo has received two yellows in the same match this season, having just been ejected on a September 2nd encounter with Inter in the Serie A. He also received red cards for AS Roma on two occasions in the previous season.

I do agree that for him, the best may yet to come.

Sounds good, and imo a bit of selfishness is a good trait for a striker. Ade could use some more of this, as selfishness often means they are confident in their own ability.

A comparison between our strikers:

Osvaldo: 13 games - 9 goals, 2 assists, 49 shots

Defoe: 20 games - 10 goals, 2 assists, 79 shots

Adebayor: 12 games - 1 goal, 0 assists, 18 shots

Oh my i knew Ade had a bad season, but not that bad! Just assumed he had several assists since he normally do!

But ye Osvaldos stats are very impressive.

He's a really good and affordable alternative. A true #9 that we've been lacking. It's just the temper issues that frighten me. He needs to get that shit sorted out.

I was just about to say, maybe if he needs to punch someone just designate Sandro as the punching bag. He won't feel a thing.

On his play, he has something about him, looks like the sort of player that could do well against tricky Stoke, Sunderland style defences, can see him giving the bottom teams a real bad day also, would be nice to have a Striker who is good to feet AND in the air, when did that happen last, Berba?

They all miss a lot of shots.

Another follow-up comparison:

Radamel Falcao (Best striker in the world): 16 Games - 17 goals, 1 assist, 58 shots (1 goal/3.4 shots)

Robert Lewandowski (Mine, and others, favorite option): 16 games - 10 goals, 3 assists, 47 shots (1 goal/4.7 shots)

Robin van Persie: 20 games - 14 goals, 6 assists, 70 shots (1 goal/5 shots)

Osvaldo: 1 goal/5.4 shots

Defoe: 1 goal/7.9 shots

Adebayor: 1 goal/18 shots (Easy math and LOL).

Can we get rid of Defoe and Adebayor then, and buy Falcao and Lewandowski?! ;) simple.

How does Cavani compare ? He would be my pick and for some reason seems to have fallen off the mega club radar as they all chase Falcao.

Could we buy Cavani and Hamsik for the 50m we are supposedly getting for Bale ?

Edinson Cavani: 15 games - 13 goals, 1 assist, 63 shots (1 goal/4.2 shots).

And there was a report stating that Napoli was offered 55m for him which was promptly rejected. So... yeah, not going to happen.
