Would have preferred 2-3 senior players involved to be honest. Even a Lucas, Bergwijn, Dier etc just to give that experience to the team if it is mostly the kids and new signings. Rather smash the first leg then send kids out second leg personally.
That would defeat the objective, which is to avoid the first team having to travel to Portugal a few days before the Wolves game.

Winks, GLC, Doherty, Davies, Gollini and Romero are the experienced senior players. It makes a lot of sense to me to integrate young players along with new players. It makes sense to give the new boys their first start away from the PL where they will need time to acclimatize. It's great for our regular 11. They get the night off watching on TV. It's great for the 11 starting tonight. They know if they play well there will be openings in the 1st XI as the season goes on, as well as providing gametime with pressure on them to win the game.

Nuno making a lot of sensible, logical decisions with a big-picture view of all the players and all the competitions imo.

I want us to as well but it will involve a lot more games for us.

So like other cup competitions we will play a weakened side in the early stages. I really hope we don't go too weak and go out by underestimating our opponents.
That's the risk I don't like. Like I said doesn't have to be the entire XI that played v City, just a few to help out the kids in a tough environment for them.

Smash first half, bring them off early and rest for Sunday. If they're not used to it by now they never will be. Again I am not saying the ENTIRE first team, just a few like Dier, Lucas etc.

Davies, Winks and, to a lesser extent, Doherty have been first team players very recently, while you'd expect Romero, Lo Celso and Gill to be around the first 11 very shortly. Gollini is also an experienced pro and CCV has a shit-ton of games under his belt in the Championship.

It's not like we're throwing the kids to the wolves here - the only true kids are Scarlett, John and Clarke.

Could it be that Nuno in a short period of time has managed to sort out how we play, patterns, positions and so forth and therefore trusts that even the youngsters know their parts in the puzzle? After watching several Europa games last year where we seemed totally bereft of a game plan and structure so we had to bring in the big guns to save us, I will watch tonight with great interest. Hopefully it will pan out since I’m fully in the let’s win this cup camp.

Armchair supporter here for obvious reasons but I would hope that the return leg next week would show a reduction in ticket costs if there is only a reserve side being put out.

Makes sense to me but DL ... Nah.

There was a reduction in costs. £20 adult (& £5 for kids) vs. £50+ PL

They're not minnows from some random small country, and even if they were, being 2 or 3 down into the next leg could easily push us out. Arrogance has cost more than one team in the past, as we saw against Dinamo Zagreb last year.

Nah we'll handle them

Remember levys criteria for the new manager was to integrate the academy lads. Nunos clearly following those orders.

Its the right move in every sense. Young players get legit experience, while saving our sr squad from crashing and burning later on in the season.
