Jenas looked class for 15 minutes and then bottled it. Got caught napping on the ball by Giggs and didn't make any incisive passes. He frustrates me unlike any other player at Tottenham and I pray to God he's sold in January and we bring in two centre mids: One a direct Palacios replacement (we have seen, as many of us feared, that without him we are powder puff) and a top class partner for him. We should have paid the money for Lucho from Porto...

Wilson and Gio played in Mexico on Wednesday in a game that finished around 4am (Thursday) BST. There are no direct flights from Mexico City to London, meaning that they needed to change planes in the US. The flight would have taken 17-18 hours and they would not have arrived in London until late morning on Friday. Coupled with this, Mexico City is at 6000 feet altitude which is extremely draining and there is a 6 hour time difference.

No surprise that Wilson was not at his sharpest. In fact the only real surprise is that he actually started the game at all.

Does anyone really believe that playing at altitude in heat and poor air quality; followed by an 18 hour journey with connecting flights; with jet-lag through the time difference is proper preparation for such an important match?

I believe that after Palacios got booked he lost a lot of his composure and was rightfully replaced by Harry.

However, as much as I am a Harry fan, I think that he got the initial starting 11 wrong yesterday. We were playing against the Champions and the team was too offensive to stat with. We shouldn't have had three strikers on, I will not venture into which pair out of Crouch/Defoe/Keane should have started, although I think that Crouchs' inclusion against Man.U wasn't ideal. I think we were not playing our usual passing game on the ground and ended up seeking the quicker but erratic ball over the midfield. We kept loosing possesion too easily and got punished for it. On the other hand, Keane was anonymous throughout and needs to have some time on the bench. GDS should be given his chance and I believe that he should have started on the left yesterday in place of the unlucky Modders.

One other choice I think Harry got wrong was for our goalkeeping, if Gomes was fit enough to play he should have started him over Cudicini. Gomes is the better of the two and I cannot understand why he was on the bench. Gomes gives our defence more security and so much more confidence. I think that the first 2 goals we conceeded were avoidable had Gomes been in goal.

On the other hand, we should still be very happy with the start of this campaign and we are still on a learning trend, yes we are still learning about what it takes to be up there with the elite teams in the best league in the world. I hope that a hiccup along the way will serve us in good stead and make us better equipped to compete at the very top.

Jenas is the most frustrating spurs player ever - speed of a cheetah - remember when he left cole standing with a ball around last season - i am sure he is as fast if not faster than lenon - his free kicks and shots can be wonderful - why in the world can he not hit forward passes from mid field? why is it always to short ball to the left or the right. he has no team based imagination cannot see or pick out other players runs - surely this can be trained into him? After, is it 3 seasons, is it liley that he will ever be a real team footballer?

Hudd somehow managed to make Paul Scholes seem ten years younger, he was very sluggish Yesterday.

Palacios was a tackle away from a red card. Sensible sub
Jenas had a great game considering how long its been since he played.

Palacios looked a step slower than usual, and was putting in a few rash challenges. As Markie said he was a tackle away from a red.

I think he was just a little tired from the travelling.

anyone who thinks different amazes me. Jenas has been an England international for 7 years, be it a squad player.

How many caps does hudd have?

Muppet !!!
the fact that hud is years younger than JJ may have something to do with it. Why do our fans feel they have to put down one player in order to praise another? why can't you support both players, while stating preference for one and backing up the point with logical explanation?

I for one wanted to see us start against united with JJ on the left and hud and Wilson in the middle, and i also hope we start like that against Chelsea. I feel this will give us the energy and drive, as well as pace and power of Wilson and JJ, but will also allow us to utilise Hud.

Don't forget - Against united, we had Crouch and defoe up top (who's strength does not lie with their movement) and therefore Hud's options and out balls were severly restricted. This also led to Lennon being marked out of the game, as he was the main attacking threat.

jenas came on and did well for a guy that's been out for a while? jenas and palacios's work rate in the middle with kranjcar and lennon supplying the amunition from the wings will do me for the chelski game..

anyone seen dc boy?

Hudd has been very consistent in the first 5 games. He deserves to stay in the squad. Why start tinkering now when the winning squad for 4 out of 5 has included hudd and palacios in the centre. I was one of the people praising JJ's performance but I dont think he deserves the nod over hudd, no way!

Maybe it has already been posted somewhere, but I just cannot stop thinking of a double-pivot pairing of Palacios and Cana, we would have been so hard to beat in the middle and really threatening (and probably as far away from the fair play award as it can possibly be).

Our superb revival last season was built on the midfield pairing of Palacios and Jenas.
The sooner we return to it the better and anyone with an ounce of football knowledge would know that Jenas was definitely one of our most consistant performers.

Totally agree. Jenas will suit the pressure game Harry wants us to put on the other team as he has the legs to get around the pitch and will score more goals from midfield then Huddlestone.
You will not se Hudd much again this season now JJ is back, could be gone in jan.

I hope Palacios was a minor glitch and he will be back to his World class form, lets face it, without Modric, AND him, we are in real trouble - they are in my mind our best two players, Defoe is coming on, and Lennon also, but I think we saw last week the impact loosing both those players had on our team!

Hopefully Woody and King will be back together soon, and in a month Modric also!

Jenas' workrate should also allow us a bit more leeway with the left hand side as he will cover so much ground across the pitch to help out. Not to mention yes, we all know Hudd has a powerful shot, but Jenas is far more of a goal threat as he doesn't need an age to set himself. If he's fit to go, we definitely need JJ and Wilson against Chelsea, in a 4-4-2 they're the only central partnership with the combination of workrate, speed, physicality and decent-ish passing we have.
