Reports coming out of Italy suggest that Parma have been dissolved, just a day after the cash-starved club was forced to postpone its Serie A game with Udinese while an 11th-hour attempt to save the club was underway.

The club have reportedly racked up a debt of €197 million and were forced to call off Sunday's game because they couldn't afford to pay stewards to attend the match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.

Owner Giampietro Manenti hasn't paid players or staff at the club, currently sitting rock bottom of the table with just 10 points, for the majority of the season.

But now that cash reserves have finally run out, the Italian Football Federation has been forced to dissolve the club and automatically relegate them.

According to Parma youth team coach Hernan Crespo, the situation has gotten so bad at the once proud club that they can't even afford bottles of water during training sessions.

While no official confirmation has yet been given, it is understood that all of Parma's remaining games this year will be recorded as 3-0 losses.

Sad news, thoroughly enjoyed watching them back in the 90's when Italian football was on Channel 4.

They were a really big club, had some really big names play for them: Veron Thuram, Buffon, Gilardino, Crespo, Cannavaro, Amoruso, Nakata, Frey, Zola, Baggio, Chiesa. Didn't even know they were in that sort of trouble.

This has been coming for a long time now, they had around 200 players out on loan at one point and are continuously changing ownership.

Its been expected, players werent paid for months and players like Cassano and Paletta and they both left the club as a result of not being paid

It was expected they would last until the end of the season and players would play for free, its a shame they didn't make it until the end of the season

If they are disolved why bother relegate them? Also shouldn't they just say that none of their games this season count? Any points or goals teams got against Parma are removed. Some will argue but it is the fairest way.

It says in the article in the OP that all remaining fixtures will be 3-0 losses.
I didnt the read article but been following the situation for the past season

It turns out it could of been either of the two. All results would of been voided had they played 19 games or less but since they played 23 and have gone over the midway mark, all results now count and the rest are now counted as a 3-0 loss

I was once standing next to a toilet (no, not an actual toilet) in a hotel waiting for someone when Crespo and the whole Parma team passed me as they were staying there because they had a friendly against Luton the next day. It was quite surreal.

Shame about them ceasing to exist, it must be horrible for the club's fans.

I'm sure Crespo and the players still exist. I think it would be illegal to disolve them too.

That team they had in the late 90s was ridiculously good. Shame they got picked apart like Dortmund have been.

The part about Crespo saying they couldn't even afford bottles of water for training made me shake my head in disbelief. Really sad that football in some parts has got to this point

Bad management (finances) and chasing dreams with little thought of the consequences. Although wasn't a lot of their debt due to the fall of Parmalat which Parma owned?
