Bit of info :
So I'm meeting a mate at the game tommorow who is an agent up in Scotland, he looks after a lot of young lads and says he has a absolute gem that a few English clubs are after.

Anyway my mate used to play with Paul Mitchell at Swindon and has arranged to meet him after the game something that apparently is a coup in itself at the moment "it's like trying to get an appointment with the pope"

I asked why he is so sought after (Mitchell) and he said his network is frightening! Said he knows of 14 year olds in Moldova that are good ! (At football)

Just passing on

seems to be that we are on the look out for players for the academy, doing what Barcelona has been famous for, and something madrid has been trying to follow...

go out, get good young players for their academy, its a low risk, and it may not always pay off, but its always good to look for a diamond in the rough.

Sounds a lot like the stuff we heard about Baldini when he joined. "He can pick the phone up and call any agent in the world at any time".

Well, other than the fact that Barca, and soon Madrid, have been sanctioned for this very practice....

We already have a very good academy full of local lads with a few not many foreign lads, be a shame to loose that but at the sametime be good to strengthen.

To be fair, Mitchell's worked with, and been a part of, the best recruiters in the country. Whenever Southampton buy a player (with the exception of Osvlado), they seem to fit in perfectly instantly, and Mitchell was obviously key to that.

I'm not doubting he's going to prove a useful acquisition to the set-up. We just get the same sort of stuff about every appointment we make. "AVB has spent his months out of work scouting in South America and has a huge list of players".

AVB did have a huge list, it was Hulk, Willian and Moutinho repeated 1000 times.

Isn't the Barca system to basically fill their Academy with local lads and then add on a few really exceptional talents from the rest of the world ? Perhaps we are trying to do the same.

I really don't mind where our players come from as long as they have the right talent, attitude and application.

Of course it is nice to have a few local, Spurs supporting lads but that just isn't realistic if we are looking to bring through real top class talent consistently- the pool has to widen.

Barca represent Catalonia like Bayern Munich represent Bavaria. Spurs are nothing like this we just need to find the talent where we can get it.

Yep I'm done with getting excited about back-room staff until we see results. As you say we've heard this with every new regime we've had in the Premier League era, and arguably our most successful seasons were when we had a manager whose transfer policy was based around his former players and whichever agent he was mates with.

I really hope Mitchell is the real deal, but let's wait and see how the summer pans out.
