As pet the tweet above:

SPURS REJECT PAULINHO BID
Tottenham have rejected a bid from AC Milan for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, according to The Times.

From what I can see it's come from Alfredo Pedulla, who is a journalist in Italy, with a less than perfect track record for these things. If it's true, however, the 'bid' is likely to be a loan bid and not a permanent transfer.

As far as I've know for quite a while, we'd never consider anything other than a permanent transfer. I'm pretty sure we rejected an approach by Corinthians earlier this month, for the same reason.

Frankly I don't understand the opposition to a loan to Italy, unless the plan is to agree to it last minute if a buy offer doesn't come through. It would be almost impossible for such a loan to diminish his value any further than what he's currently losing by barely playing for us currently. We get him off the wage books for a time, he potentially sees a value rise by being there in Italy, we don't have to keep pigeonholing him at AM... Just do not see where the problem lies.

Not stalking you honest!

Loan fee or wages? Once again we don't know what they've offered? Maybe they'll be only willing to pay us £15k per week and expect us to pick up the rest for exanple?

All true, but even then, I still don't see the loss for us. We're letting his value drop by the week and paying him undoubtedly a handsome amount to do so. To me, the chances of such a move causing him to lose more value at a greater rate than he is in his urgent situation, even if we still paid the majority of his wages, are just extremely small IMO.

Pochettino must see something as he starts today.

I hardly count a first start in the league since September and out of position with Chadli still out as "seeing something," but hey to each their own.'

Edit: Whoops, seems I have that wrong. Seems this is his first league start of the entire season. Yeah in my book that's hardly "seeing something" between him being played out of position once again and Townsend playing so much lately with need of rest and Chadli returning to fitness.

Paulinho starting today says it all about his pos at #Tottenham. Poch likes him, he's improving, and going nowhere this window #THFC

Oh yes, Thomas, the fella who did his homework so well he was entirely embarrassed in front of the twitter world for his misclaimer about Kaboul's interest from Besiktas.

I think it's simply Poch making the best out of the situation. If he's improving, that's great. But you can't honestly tell me he'd be playing there if Chadli were fit and Townsend weren't in need of a rest. Hence where once again I don't believe Thomas adequately did his homework on the situation.

But everything he says there seems to be accurate when you look at the teams in recent months as Paulinho hasn't ever really been off the subs bench.

I think you're looking for evidence that he's going/Poch wants him to go when there is none.

Oh the irony of you accusing me of being the subjective one here is not lost on me.

I never said there's evidence at hand that he's going anywhere. I just don't think there's evidence Poch has plans for him for the future with the evidence at hand. Sure, improving, but I think it much more likely he's still on the periphery and is again only in this side because of as Townsend and Chadli not up to snuff and because our AM corps is ridiculously thin. If he were fighting his way back into his CM role maybe you'd have a case, but as of now I think there's a middle ground between what you're proposing and what you're accusing me of proposing.

Thanks for the rude comment. I didn't think you were like that.

I'm sorry. I do not like to be accused of subjectivity in making points, so I apologize if my response was disproportionate. Hope you're enjoying the early lead, bud.

I don't even think Paulinho has any interest in going to Italy in the first place given the reputation for racism in that league and his past with it.

Had a solid outing today. Looked good going forward and always seemed an open option for a pass in the WBA third. Still needs to work on the defensive side of things as he can be clumsy in the challenge and let passes go straight past him that he should be intercepting.

Obviously going nowhere after today and it's worth remembering that part of Pochottino's reputation is coaching players to better play his systems, it's perfectly likely that he sees what he wants in Paulinho and the improvement he's been working for.

It's clear to me that Pauli is lacking a little bit of confidence. At least three times today he clearly saw Lamela on a run, thought about the pass, decided against it and passed sideways instead. At least two of those a good pass really opens things up, the third I couldn't tell but I thought the pass was there to be made. He's not nearly as bad as some people are making him out to be but still a ways to go in restoring his confidence. Poch trying to cheer him up really emphasized how much of a mental thing he believes Pauli's woes to be.
