I cannot for the life of me imagine that we’ve been negotiating this deal for three weeks but blindly ignoring the image rights elephant in the room.
Surely this issue was shop window front and centre from the beginning.
Absolutely no point agreeing fees and terms if the imagine rights were such a mess.
I can imagining agreeing everything on a house purchase, legals etc and then finding the land is owned by someone else.
Why pursue an impossible deal.
I guess we had to try
The statement would have been unbelievable tho. Disappointed but this one was above and beyond expectations

Until a fee can be agree with Juve why would the image rights people even talk to us? Maybe the legal issues just got more and more complex the more we looked into it? Maybe goalposts moved and the figures were just above our limits (i.e. wages went above Kane).

I don't really think we can knock the club on this one, as tempting as it is to have someone to blame. I'm looking at Dybala's old agent/Star Image to be honest.

Really frustrating and puts a massive dampener on our other business. With Eriksen clearly wanting out, and not focussed on Spurs, we really needed another attacking option to come with GLC.

Yes we did well to get NDombele in, but everything else just feels like treading water, we’ve also weakened the squad by selling first team players.

Bringing in a worldie like this would have perhaps papered over those cracks a little.

What I don't get about all this is that if we were working on this deal for the past few weeks, then we should've known by now whether the deal was doable. Which leads me to the next point. We already knew Ericksen is intent on leaving, and knowing how difficult it would be to complete the Dybala deal, why is it that we did not have a contingency in place? Wasn't Bruno supposed to be that? Or was he a contingency for GLC? If that was the case then why didn't we go for Coutinho?

I refuse to believe that GLC is a replacement for CE. If CE goes, which is almost a certainty at this point, we'll still end up short a player when this window closes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that we signed TN and GLC, who will help us massively and keep us in contention for top 4, but without any other quality additions that's about as much we can hope for now.

I don't get how there was such a quick turn shift from very close to completely dead

Would be interesting to know more on this. I’m not surprised it didn’t work, but a bit odd that 12 hours ago it’s seemed like they had a solution and then it all went to crap.

Why have you assumed that it wasn't possible for the entire time? If it is only just hit a snag, would you rather we didn't try and do anything slightly difficult? I'm not sure he can win with some fans. And that's fine. I'm happy for your opinion. It's just always frustratingly negative and, if I'm honest, smacks of "I know better" when, sorry, you don't.

to your point, complex business issues are like russian dolls or onions. You think you are at the last layer and voila, there is another one. Add to that the negotiation element and there is uncertainty but if the prize is big enough, you enter into it knowing it may not be successful but certainly worth trying for.

How hard can it be to work out "image rights "? Sounds like bullshit and has to be something else

Hope we get coutinho or bruno now instead because I really want eriksen gone
There's a third party which owned some of his rights, a different one which now own some of them, an alleged breach of contract and a pending £40m bijudicial legal case, which would have become trijudicial if he signed for us with the potential for the whole scenario to change in a couple of months time when one of those judiciaries withdraws from the EU. How on earth you've reached the conclusion that this is so simple it couldn't possibly explain the deal collapsing is beyond me.

We've still made a statement. We agreed the fee, he wanted to come to us, we're going after top-level players. He would never have entertained us a few years ago.... That's my positive spin on it.

i agree, didn't mean it in a bad way, but could you imagine!

Anyone seen an ITK recently? Feel like the class has been left alone without a teacher. Living it up and now I’ve just realised they’ve been gone for too long...

Absolutely spot on.

Must keep in perspective that Dybala was a bonus signing really.

Normally, this saga would have been played out on the Ndombele or Lo Celso type - ie. the player we simply had to get in. Then when we lost out it would actually have a detrimental effect on the team.

This was very much a nice to have. Ok it didn't work out, but the money is still there. And the ambition is clear to see. We are dining at the top table now. Excited for the furture! COYS!

He was a Brucie bonus. Wasn't even on the cards 3 weeks ago. Had it not happened, we would all be gushing about NDombele, Siss, GLC and saying it was fantastic. Rose apparently wants to stay, so, all's good.

A very big plus side to this falling through is that Parrot might get a bit of game time this season.

Parrot looks a real talent in my opinion.

When pursuing large deals (no, your house was not a large deal) complex issues are usually sidebarred, so they don't disrupt the entire deal. One team could have been working on the main deal and agreed as much as they could, while another would be working on this. Or we decided to see if a deal was even possible before committing resources to clarifying this issue.
