I still think he ends up going for £60-65m.

Here is an interesting choice really. Williams release clause £43m paid in 1 lump sum. Or Neto for £65m paid in 3/4 instalments.

I wonder which deal the club would prefer if we wanted one of them.
In the past 2 windows Williams had options to leave will be difficult to get him out of Spain at this moment. He’s young and settled . I still cannot name the la liga player we like but he’s up there with Neto for no 1 options no one has mentioned him yet .

Yeah no way Neto goes anywhere for 80. Will just be negotiating tactics. I think you’re spot on with the price range.

As for Nico, will be interesting to see what happens to him come summer. Part of me thinks that he already has a move in mind he’d like to make.

Good that we have another option as with Mendes involved with Neto it could be a very tricky deal to get done.

The only La Liga options I can think of outside of Nico Williams on the level of Neto (or in some cases even higher) would be:

Vinicius Jr
Rodrygo
Kubo
Raphinha (though I’m put off him by Ghost’s comments)

They are the only quality wide players in La Liga basically of the right kind of style that we need, outside of young talents like Assane Diao but surely young talents wouldn’t be the alternative to an established target like Neto.

@Ghost Hardware can you think of anyone else?

Ferran Torres as Barca need to sell?

Not a dribbler type winger at all. Completely different profile to Neto and the others.

Wouldn’t say much for our recruitment process if he was an alternative to Neto imo.

Id say its most likely Raphinha on the alternatives you listed.

WLB mentioned Raphinha previously when he first spoke about Neto and a mystery La Liga target so assume it is someone other than him

Possibly Moleiro who reminds me of a young B Silva

Wouldn’t he be more of a young alternative rather than established choice? Looks a good player though.

Yeah he would be a younger one but outside of Williams, Felix and Kubo, I cant think of anyone else that is either remotely possible or good enough to be a Neto alternative.

If we are just looking at names then Joao Felix although he is more a inside forward but still he's obviously a more developed player. Torres as was mentioned above but I agree with you regarding his profile not being what we need but again he is a more developed player. Honestly there aren't many. Savio and Bryan Zaragoza would have been the obvious choices but those are no longer options.

Aside from that we have the youngsters, there are probably more i'm forgetting about but off the top of my head.

Jeremy Pino (injured, big prospect tho)
Abde Ezzalzouli (barca will sell him in the summer)
Assane Diao (still very raw)
Álex Baena (although he's more an LW/AM)
Alberto Moleiro (again come's inside a lot)
Arda Guler (only just went to RM so not gonna be him)

Essentially like you say, not really many who seem like obvious alternatives to Neto to the point that they are joint 1st on the list.

Would be pretty pumped if we were able to sign Neto. Even if we don't, at least it appears clear we are definitely prioritising that sort of player which is very encouraging.

The one thing working in our favour with Neto is that he will instantly come in and be a starter for us.

At Liverpool/Arsenal he's more likely to be a rotation option.

I know he's having a good season but I've just never been particularly enamoured by him and I think he'd struggle in the PL. Also this season he has played a lot as a forward rather then a winger. He's not bad but I would be surprised if he was on our list tbh.

Totally agree with this, just can't think of many wide forwards in La Liga who could be an alternative to Neto.

Threatening wingers are the new star center forwards IMO, re: commanding high fees.

How many genuine 9s are there in the world, and how do they do without high quality service? Many of the the true stars of the last decade have been wide forwards, who put defences on the back foot, stretch teams, create and score.

Neto is one of the best in the league in this role. Remember, he plays in a team that's been pretty topsy turvey, and is 23, but is 3rd in the league in assists, at 9, while also being one of the quickest players in the league, and one of the best dribblers.

It's only his injury record that makes any fee questionable. Otherwise I would say that 60/70 is not unreasonable in any respect. Without injury, I'd say he would be worth materially more.

60 is Johnson + a youth prospect. I'd argue that's worth it and then some
