Would love him on the bench, if we go with the same 11 as last game it leaves us with these obvious 10 as bench options.

Forster
Davies
Phillips/Dier
Emerson
Hojbjerg
Skipp
Perisic
Johnson
Richarlison
Veliz

Would really like him on the bench but realistically I can't see it.

Need a keeper, need Davies as he's our LB/LCB back up. Probably need another CB in Phillips or Dier, Emerson is the RB back up. Probably need both Skipp and PEH as Ange likes to make 2 midfield subs which leave 3 attacking bench options available with will likely be Johnson, Richy and Perisic.
Can’t really disagree with any of that, probably depends on Richie’s state of mind and whether he’s included or not.

My worry would be that if Richie was on the bench, came on and missed a good chance it could really effect him.

Obviously it’s up to Ange so happy with whatever he decides. 😊

I think if he's fit he most definitely should be on the bench and if he comes on should get a massive reception from our home fans.

I know many are still unsure whether or not he'll come good, but the guy is clearly going through some shit and we absolutely need to support him.

Imagine coming out publicly stating you're having issues personally and mentally and need professional help, only to get moans and groans a couple of days later if you come off the bench and miss a half decent chance. I'd like to think us as fans are much better than that, so lets hope we do the right thing and back our player the best we can.

As long as Ange and Richie are happy so am I and I’ll give him 100% support.
I think the wider issue of whether or not he’ll come good in the future is unimportant right now and is a discussion for another time. 👍😊

Veliz on the bench, at the expense of a winger, probably makes more sense when Richarlison starts.

I had the same concern, but was also worried dropping him entirely could nave a negative impact on him mentally. I hope his performance today does really effect him! :)

Yeah let's hope that lights the fire for him. He must feel amazing. Best thing he did was speak out and open up about it. Fans cheering him warming up was nice.

Hopefully Veliz gets a chance gonna be hard to get him game time if everyone is fit.

Or if Perisic leaves in January
Considering he has played in all 6 matches so far (5x PL & 1x EFL), I can't see Ange letting him leave in January without another LW coming in.

Son is going to play the central role fairly regularly this season. Any time he does, we have only two recognised LWs in the squad (Solomon & Perisic). The triple substitution today, and the impact that Perisic & Richarlison made together, highlights that we'd be missing something if Perisic left without being replaced.

I would be surprised if Perisic stayed beyond this season, but summer 2024 seems the more logical time to move him on imo. I get that he could be used to sweeten the Vuskovic deal, but it would seem a bit negligent to create a hole in the core first-team squad mid-season, to sign a 16-year-old prospect.

Haha, I saw the guy in the cap on the replay but didn't realise it was Veliz :ROFLMAO:

Love that! Veliz breaking the barrier, Gil trying to but not quite strong enough and Phillips going mental! Exactly what you want to see from those not part of the match day squad!

Plus I love seeing Lolo there! Can’t wait to have him back with the squad!

Veliz had 3 really good one-on-one opportunities to score but under-hit or hit his shots directly at the keeper.

Definitely promising to see him get into those positions and his speed and physicality looked really good, but it's clear that he's not yet ready to feature for the 1st team.

Hope he gets more minutes with the U21's to build up his fitness and sharpness and I'm really excited about the group of young CFs that we have.

Postecoglou on Alejo Veliz

To be fair to him, he's only had one week of training. He had two sessions last week. We gave him game time for the U21s and he's now had a full week of training. It's great to have him on board but there's no expectation on him. We need to let him settle and get him training more consistently and get him a game or two more for the U21s, but we've been really encouraged about how he has gone about things and watching him other night, he showed attributes, he has great movement and is a real number nine.
