Emerging Spurs star steps up rehab in training after ankle injury

The 22-year-old playmaker suffered an ankle injury in June while on duty with England at the European Under-21 Championships. After a successful season on loan at Brentford Pritchard has been tipped to achieve big things with Spurs this season. He has not been in full training since he suffered the injury, however, and he was left out of the squad to face the MLS All-Stars last week. With the start of the season approaching Pritchard may not be fit enough to be in the Tottenham side on the opening day, but his latest post on Instagram suggests he is recovering well. The short video shows the youngster looking sharp and agile while taking part in an individual drill. Pritchard is highly regarded at White Hart Lane and he is expected to be handed a new contract in the near future. He is part of an exciting core of young players that also includes Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane.

Love how Poch's keeping a close eye on him.

Alli, pritchard, trippier, wimmer. All will contribute greatly this season imo.

Eriksen better turn it up another notch.

The best thing Pritchard will do initially is make Eriksen play better. I think many of us remember Christian's quotes from the end of the 2013-2014 season when Pritchard got his first team debut against Aston Villa. He has noticed him and knows he's got the goods.

"He’s a really good player and he made a real impression on me in the first few days he was back at the club," Eriksen told Spurs’ official website.

"He’s very skilful, good on the ball. He didn’t get much of a chance on his debut, a short time, but he’s really talented. He’s one for the future, for sure."

This little nugget was at the end of today's injury update before United

Mauricio also reported that Alex Pritchard will soon start to train with the squad after being ruled out of pre-season with an ankle injury sustained in the UEFA Under-21 Championship. "It was a shame because we expect a lot from him," added Mauricio.

I'm really pleased the Poch and the staff are expecting big things from him and not just maybe another young option.

Just scored two goals in 7 minutes including a free kick to put us 2-0 up against Everton in the U21s (y)

Eriksen will simply have to find another couple of gears if he wants to keep his place consistently. Pritchard is no joke. Not one bit.

Agree with above, I think we're going to end up with an interchangeable AM3 of Pritchard, Berahino and one other (Alli?).

That would be a great mix. If our last few signings come off we will have fantastic options/flexibility going forward.

Pritchard is quality, he's better than Chadli and Lamela.

He doesn't need this kind of pressure.
I hope fans understand it's his FIRST season in the EPL and mistakes will happen.
Personally I can't wait to see him in the line up.

No, he's the messiah, and will definitely take us to the promised land. But if he makes some mistakes he's immediately shit like Bentelab/Mason/Rose etc...

Pritchard and Eriksen playing together is something to look forward to. I find the criticism of Eriksen a little odd - as I see it, he's our best of the 'three' by a mile. Add Charlie Austin as a back-up to Kane, and an improvement to Chadli/Lamela/Dembele and we'll be going somewhere (Berahino?). The interchange between the front four will be key to our season, so bringing Pritchard into the fold and having good options on the bench to change personnel and formation would be great.

Steady on here...I watched the lad at Brentford last season and he was excellent. But dont expect too much from him if and when he gets his chance. Like sensible people says, he will need time and it could take a season.

But one to watch. Still relatively inexperienced especially when we start talking about the likes Eriksen who is far more experienced.

I think he'll slot in very easily. After all, he'll be playing with his mates that he's played with for years: Mason, Kane, Bentaleb, Carroll, Townsend.

I think people saying he is better than lamela and Chadli are putting high expectations on him before he has started. I think he is quality but he is probably going to be the best crosser and free kick taker we have definitely close between him and eriksen

i'm not sure what attributes eriksen actually has over pritchard.

Right now it's experience, if you can call that an attribute.

Pritch has all the raw skills needed, just needs game time to get himself up to speed. Eriksen can clearly be a match winner when he's switched on and we know he's good enough to play at this level. I find it a bit silly people are writing him off because he phases out of games at times. He's a top quality player and we just need to be patient with him and play the right kind of players with him. I thought he was really bright in that first 20 minutes against United and after that he wasn't any worse than anyone else really. Had he scored his chance we could've been looking at a different response on here from some.

Personally, I see it more of a situation where Pritch should eventually be playing alongside Eriksen, not just an Eriksen or Pritchard scenario. Our attacking 3 behind Kane is all too rigid and devoid of any drive or creativity at times. We just need to find the right combination.
