rumours of us going after Clement Lenglet of Barcelona in January

call me crazy, but i really don’t see how he’s an upgrade on Davies. if he’s the best we can do in January, we should wait until summer IMO.
what happened to him? i thought he was highly-rated before moving to Barca

I don’t disagree that Lenglet hasn’t had a good couple of seasons but he has the attributes to thrive in a LCB position. He’s a bit too aggressive (like Romero) and gets out of body shape/position sometimes but Dier can cover in a back 5. He is good with his feet, has a fantastic long ball and has a decent physical presence. A couple of seasons ago he was fantastic when Umtiti got injured. I don’t think we can judge anyone at Barcelona over past two seasons. What a mess. We can relate eh!! Perhaps Conte could work his magic and if it frees up funds for Vlahovic (as opposed to De Ligt or other similarly expensive CB targets) then might be worth a punt.

Just read in an article that Ben has recently completed an OU degree in Economics and Business, and got a 2:1
Previously got a Maths A Level while playing for Swansea
I've always liked him as a footballer, now he's gone up more in my estimation
Not because there's a link between academic and football intelligence, many a football genius has disproved that. But because it's good to see someone using his spare time in a positive way. I suspect Ben isn't one to found regularly at the bookies or drinking haunts beloved of too many players.
And yes I know some players thrive on such lifestyles but a lot don't.

Someone like this is worth watching to be a future manager.

Pretty certain on one of those teammates quizzes done by Sky Sports, Ben was chosen as most likely to be a manager previously.

Met Ben a few times when he was playing for Swansea (live just outside Swansea) he is a really pleasant guy. As @ShelfWatcher put above he is the opposite of what most modern footballers are.

Got a lot of time for Ben Davies, honestly probably my current favourite player in our squad, Just seems decent honest guy who always gives his best and never moans when he isn’t picked,

Haha, Spurs Chat is proper funny. Last time I was in this thread, I was being barracked for daring to suggest he was a capable, dependable member of the squad. Not complaining at the shift in tone, it's nice to see, but don't be surprised if one or two pretty militant anti-Ben "fans" wake up at some stage and express their disgust with flacid disagree or dislike ratings.

Hard worker - seven and a half years a Yido, glad we have him.

I feel like Ben is one of those quiet dependable players you often see in top teams. They won’t set the world on fire, but you can be pretty certain you’ll get a solid performance from them whenever they play.

Conte has had plenty of those in his time, that's why he rates him so highly.

We need someone to compete with/cover for Ben Davies. If Conte could get Lenglet's confidence back (like he's done with Dier) he'd be an awesome signing IMO, especially if we could pick him up on the cheap.

Same. Really like him and happy that we are playing a back 3 as he absolutely suits that LCB role down to a T!

He is an average at best LB and lacks the pace to cover the big spaces 1v1 and to exploit opponents when attacking forwards, as a LWB he's ok but again doesn't really have the pace to get up and down or to accelerate past players. As a LCB he's perfect as he's decent with the ball, good positionally, good defensively, can overlap and is a threat at set-pieces.

Wonder if Conte will want to upgrade him or thinks he is ok, I assume ideally upgrade but I think in a well functioning team Davies at LCB is not far off as good as you are going to get, he's also very experienced in this role from his time playing there with Wales.

He's been really good at LCB which has surprised me a bit. He's a good utility option to have in the squad and must be a dream player for most managers being as he just gets his head down and is never any bother at all.

Why do we think he didn't play against C.Palace, was that just him being rested because of 3 games in short succession or do we think Conte genuinely thinks Tanganga/Sanchez can compete with Davies for the LCB spot (assuming Romero is 1st choice RCB when he is back).

For me when fit Davies should be first choice LCB all day long with the players we currently have available, he's most experienced and consistent in that position and obviously left footed which is a massive help.

Ben Davies also buys Welsh fans drinks in pubs after games a la Tyson Fury. The guy is a legend.
Bought me many in Aarhus Denmark and my friends when he wasn’t even drinking lovely guy, and was more than happy to talk football and global warming & veganism

He get forward a lot more than Sanchez.

It will be interesting to see if he still pushes up as high when Romero is back.

It would basically be Dier as a sweeper, the other 2 CB's
