Davies is a big loss.

Also again highlights how daft Conte was to get shot of Reggy leaving us with Perisic (who could struggle due to age, which has now been the case) and the meek and forever injured Sessegnon.

I know Reggy has been injured too, but who knows what would have happened if he hadn’t had to adapt to a new club etc and stayed with us?

Davies is class and I hope we keep him, but seriously hope we get shot of Sessegnon as just had enough of him really. He’s had long enoug now and can’t stay fit for a whole season.

Sorry, but it makes no sense to keep 3 LWBs plus Davies. That would not be good squad management.

Disagree as Davies was meant to be played left centre back as one of the two options there. No one considered him a wing back until he recently stepped up and showed he can still do the business there.

Perisic was a risky signing due to his age and Sessegnon has never stayed fit for a season with us.

So you could see we were leaving ourselves open to being short there, which I posted back in summer and Lo and behold it has come to pass.

If Perisic had been any good defensively it wouldn’t be a worry, but this has not been the case.

Only thing perhaps we could otherwise try is a back four with Lenglet at left back and allowing Porro to roam forwar more, although I suspect we’ll just play Perisic left wing back and he’ll continue to struggle.

I hope Perisic proves me wrong, but he’s not shown it so far this season.

Sending out Reggy on loan also only left us with one proven left back in Davies (as neither Sessegnon or Perisic have played the role for us) so again restricted us tactically to a back three, which was daft.

Squad is a numbers game, always limited, if you want 3 LWBs then one have to be U21 or a versatile player for numbers to match up

Thought this had been bumped because a bid had come in for a minute!

There are rumors circulating this morning (meh sources) that Jose would be interested in Davies and us in Ibanez.

Although I'm pretty sure Roma need to sell for FFP reasons so not sure how that would work out logistics wise

Are we expecting him to be a LB next season? If so I think that’s a major mistake.

No idea if we’ll pursue him but Van de Ven can play full back… would be a very useful versatile signing a bit like Emerson, both can play full back and centre back.

Can’t see Davies going abroad though since his partner has just had a baby.

They’re flogging Ibanez to just about every team in Europe.

Yeah it seems they view him as an asset that would generate some funds. I think they're about 30-35M off of FFP and the deadline says June 30th? It does seem to line up that they've been able to secure Ndicka and Aouar on frees.

I''d have no issue at all with him being kept as a squad player. Most of the season he was OK.

I really appreciate Davies, but I think it makes sense to move him on as part of the current rebuild.

We're looking to secure a new starting LCB and upgrade the back-up/rotation option (which looks to be Lenglet).

At LB we have Udogie, Reguilon, Sessegnon and Perisic already. There isn't much point in keeping Davies around in his Mr Fix-it role floating between LCB and LB while we're looking to trim the squad as part of the rebuild and reduced fixture schedule.

I think we'll end up seeing Ange keeping 2 of those LB options and shifting the surplus which would include Davies, and will look at a HG option like Tosin Adarabioyo to fill the back-up/rotation option behind Romero at RCB, and then integrating youth as required (Alfie Dorrington).
