Lacking quality wise today but he put in more effort than 9 other players. Along with Bissouma, he looked like he actually gave a shit about winning today.

Around the 37 min mark he had 3 moments where he pointed for a slide pass into space and started to make a run and then another moment where he came short and motioned strongly for the ball. 4 times in about a couple of minutes of play where he was being very proactive off the ball but his teammates didn't see the opportunity or have the confidence to pull off the pass.

No idea if he has enough quality on the ball yet but he's certainly trying more than most.

I'd have thought he would have bulked up a bit if he was serious about staying with us~ but no change in all the time he's been here.
Cmon any team in Spain take him back

Agreed, really hard for any attacker to thrive when the team isn’t providing them with the passes they need.

Kane and Son just stand with their backs to the goals next to the defenders. Gil was about the only one who was making any runs for probably the first 50 minutes.

We had one relatively decent chance in the match and it involved Gil and Doherty...

There were times he got the ball and there were no options but as soon as he was surrounded he looked to go down. Seems very weak mentally.

I quite liked what I saw of him but he needs to stop falling over and looking at the ref. Most of our players recently seem scared of the ball, but he wanted it constantly and I liked that.

As with all young players, he needs consistent game time, either with us or back out on loan but the lack of Moura/Richi and Deki showed why we kept him around, so it's tough.

Poor scouting IMO. Totally unsuitable for the pace and physical aspect that is the Premier league.
Willing to let this one slide for FP.

There's two types of scouting 'team specific' and 'talent'. Gil falls into talent.

I think FP had been monitoring Gil whilst at Juventus as a prospect that could go on to become a massive player so wanted to snap him up to get him developed.

As it was his first window, and Levy's MO is to sign players like that, he probably felt it was a great opportunity.

I don't think he'd make a signing like that now, especially under Conte

Another like Emerson though who was signed for another manager and formation. That doesn't help either.

Agree his signing falls into talent, but when that meant an inconsistent Lucas was pushed into the first choice role we really should have been looking at team specific, promoting second choice to first because we haven't replaced properly has been the biggest issue with our decline.
I agree he wouldn't make a signing like that now, I expect some direct conversation about player fit has been had, wake up call etc etc..

Although it pushed an inconsistent Lucas to first choice, which shows a lack of planning from people that have far more experience than us, I'm certain that £50m + Lamela could have got us better players than Gil/Emerson, even for Nunoball, whatever that was.
