We brought the guy as a left winger in a 442 system to someone that is playing as an inverted winger in a 343 defensively minded team . I like the fact that when he comes on he gives everything and tries to make things happen , at the moment he doesnt seem to have an-end product but with the lack of guile in our squad I’d be disappointed if we loan him out this season .

From the Guardian: 10 points from the weekend

Gil puts himself in derby contention

It is rare that a player can find his way back at a club after being on the end of the kind of treatment that Bryan Gil received from Antonio Conte at Tottenham.

When Conte arrived as the manager in November 2021, he did not fancy the winger, starting him only twice – NS Mura away, Morecambe at home (neither went well for Gil) – loaning him to Valencia in January and then saying that the club had not done their homework before signing him.

Conte said Gil was not strong enough physically and, pre-World Cup, he continued to overlook him. And yet here we are, with Gil having started three matches in a row and hoping to be a solution in Sunday’s derby against Arsenal.

Injuries to Dejan Kulusevki, Richarlison and Lucas Moura have forced Conte’s hand. But Gil was really good at Crystal Palace, prompting Conte to compare him to Bernardo Silva, and he was lively against Portsmouth on Saturday.

The hope at Spurs is that Kulusevski will be fit for Arsenal. If not, Gil has given Conte a decision to make. David Hytner

Strange that just as he had a breakthrough and seemed to earn conte's trust he gets yanked. I know kulu is back but there are still minutes to go around.

Perhaps they view this period as vital to his development, it would be good for him to get valuable minutes and hopefully push on next season. i Wonder if Everton has been offered him out of pity?

And if Kulu gets injured again we won’t have anyone who’s comfortable playing on the right.

At the risk of being attacked I thought he looked miles away from being ready.

Both physically and mentally he doesn't impose himself on games

It could be our system to be fair but a championship loan or somewhere like Rangers or Celtic would do him the world of good.

I feel that like many in the squad its game time and a clear run of games he needs. To play in this system and be thrown in for the odd game/ few minutes at the end does not help anyone develop. Conte does complain about numbers but never seems use the squad, and give players time to adapt (or maybe us as fans don't allow it either)

I am 100% behind him going on loan. I think he's in a bit of an odd spot here with us. He is good enough to warrant getting game time but he isn't up to speed with the PL enough yet to bring him on when we need that fresh pair of legs. The only time Conte will use him is ether if he has no other option due to injury or if we are ether comfortably winning or comfortably loosing and he may as well throw the kitchen sink in. This will result in barely any minutes fro the second half of the season i would think.

Now im a big fan of his and would be really really disappointed if we allowed an option to be included in any potential loan. But i do think playing week in week out would be the best thing for his development right now. However if he does go on loan we are also going to need to bring someone else in. If Gil leaves we will be left in the situations where Kulu is the only competent RWF and the only left footed player in the team. Danjuma has played a grand total of 19 games there his entire career and we already know Richy is completely useless there. Beyond that Conte wants his RWF to cut in so the WB's can overlap so really playing a right footer there is just not a great option.

Im not overly convinced that will happen TBH, but if we get one injury to any of our forwards we would be back to one option on the bench which is mental considering the amount of games we have coming up. So yes, i hope he gets a good loan with no option but i also hope we bring in another attacker who can play right.

If he isn't going on loan then I hope he starts on Saturday. We are going to need all our forwards being up sharp in the coming months and we can't play Kulu into the ground.

Some reports this morning that we'd be looking for a straight sale rather than a loan. Still think there is loads of potential there, and unsure how I feel about a sale.

But if you can get what you paid for him or more, while using those funds to help the squad elsewhere, then it might be one to consider.

If we do I’d want us to be clever and put a buy back clause in there or some such. He’ll be good somewhere else.

That would be crazy. He's only 21, yes he needs game time but selling him now would be a bad move imo. At least give him a chance to develop before writing him off.

I agree with you. Yes, there's always a chance he doesn't settle in the country or PL, but he's one you take a chance on IMO. Especially when your manager's future is uncertain.

Just had a look on twitter, so it all could be just noise, but yeah a lot of talk about him going back to Sevilla imminently and us requesting a compulsory buy clause inserted. Honestly would be extremely disappointed by that I have to say. He's hardly had a run out and the last few games he was given time he finally started to show his potential.
