He’s gonna be behind Kulusevski, Johnson, Solomon and potentially Richarlison/Son depending on the managers selection of position for the two of them. This run in the team that people want is not going to happen and frankly I don’t believe he’s done enough to deserve minutes ahead of any of those guys mentioned above. He’ll have to bide his time and prove himself in training, which is generally how it is for most young players. Chances aren’t just given out like a charity, they are always earned in training.

What a peculiar post.

He’ll be our first option off the wing on Saturday if he is deemed fit and Johnson is not.

If not, we’re playing Luton and Fulham in the coming two games. I’d fully expect him to get minutes in at least one of those games, especially if we are able to get in a comfortable position in the second half.

Playing on the left wing in this team means the three teammates closest to you are Udogie, Maddison and Son. I think he is well capable to thrive in that environment, but if he fails to impress he’ll be gone by January.

Peculiar why? Because I don’t think he’ll get a run of games ahead of more senior options that have proven themselves capable at this level? He won’t be our first option at all, there’s no way he’s jumping straight ahead of Solomon who is currently a far more accomplished player at PL level and I’m almost certain Ange would sooner put Son back on the wing and Richy up front than start Gil. I just think every single one of our squad options are currently a better choice than Gil, there’s nothing peculiar about that, the lad has about 2 goal involvements in 18 months here or out on loan. I get people want him to do well but he’s not going to get minutes magically ahead of more deserving teammates, it just doesn’t and never will work like that. His injury in pre-season was majorly unfortunate for him as he missed his opportunity to make his mark while others did but now he’s going to have to train well for a consistent period to get many minutes I think

I definitely see a world where he comes on as a sort of attacking duo with Richy. We know Gil can deliver in crosses from the left, and Richy can thrive on that kind of service. So, I think there is a pathway to plenty of opportunities (eventually), so if he makes the most of them who knows what can happen.
In time I can see this happening, sure. He’ll have to prove himself in training though because as it stands he is last in the pecking order and will be quite lucky to make the bench once our injury crisis is over, depending on if Ange wants more than one winger on the bench or prioritises other positions with Richy being able to play on the wing too

No-one is expecting him to walk straight into the team, but Ivan’s injury has opened up a squad place, and if he impresses in training Ange will give him a chance. That’s the difference, there’s not the same emphasis on seniority and hierarchy that there was with Conte.

Definitely an option with Perisic out , even if not fully match fit could give 10 minutes or so off the bench if needed, just hope he has strengthened up a bit and doesn't go down when challenged which he did quite a lot previously.

He’ll be best used as a LW in our system, I’m not sure the inverted wingers really plays into the style AP wants to implement.

Like many of our players, he’s been written off far too quickly. He’s a baller and used correctly, could be a huge asset for us.

I’m really hoping he gets a chance.

I sincerely hope you are right. I have no doubt he is a big talent, he was touted as one of the most gifted young players in Spain when we signed him. Would absolutely love it if he turned things around here with Ange.

Seniority isn’t important I agree. He hasn’t shown anything to suggest he’s a better player than Solomon yet though and he’ll be his main competition for minutes. I just don’t think it’s going to be easy for him to get a foothold in the squad even with Perisic out

I believe he is going to become an important player for us.

He is going to get more opportunity under Ange and I believe he will thrive.

The only thing I can see holding him back is being a little lightweight.

Glad he’s back, we need him and I think he should suit Ange's style of football pretty well.

Excited to see how he gets on.

I don’t think any of us have ever doubted he has ability and works hard he’s just not been suited to Nuno or Conte’s style of play, was perhaps a tad lightweight at times but under Ange I think he could be another very exciting addition, almost fate that Perisic gets that injury just before Gil comes back, a passing of the guard if you will.

Good luck Bryan and excited to see you play in our fine lillywhite again soon.

Seems like a good lad/personality too, won’t cause any problems and works hard, good technically, quick, agile, will need to work on improving his end product but will get plenty of the ball in this new system.

And how can you be so sure that he’s not gonna train well, I fancy he’s a brilliant trainer, he certainly gives his full 100% commitment on games

I don't think anyone has nailed a place in wide attack yet. Kulusevski probably the best so far. The left side of attack is there for someone to grab. Maybe a good thing though and will allow for a bit of rotation. It's all good competition in a position that will see plenty of late subs as well.

I’ve not said he won’t or doesn’t train well? I just have my doubts that he’ll get a lot of game time unless we continue to have injuries in the attacking positions. If we’ve got a fully fit attacking unit then I can’t see how he’s going to get time on the pitch on merit ahead of our other options

I think writing off a player, who hasn’t played in our new system, but has the characteristics to succeed in it… is silly

A small part of me wonders if Ange will just throw him straight in at the deep end tomorrow like he has done several players so far.

A thought that scares and excites me equally :cautious:

How do you know he’s last in the pecking order when he’s been injured the whole time ? Perhaps you meant to say you assume he’s last in the pecking order?

Agree. A real player there. A but too lightweight still but he is far more suited to success under Ange than any of the previous managers so far

Unlikely, "Back in full training" does not mean fully fit.
