If you're interested in watching him play an uncut half of preseason football against English opposition, here you go:

Note: His performance is pretty meh IMO. He was dispossessed quite a lot due to some clumsy touches. He does play some clever one-two balls though and made some nice cuts in the box that his teammates failed to connect.

Jaysus...hard to take many positives out of that. As you said, some decent movement in the box (at times) and a bit of hold up play. Wasn't the most high-energy performance you'll ever see. To be fair, not a lot of quality on display, and the game was being played at half pace. I'm not against the signing, and I trust Mou and team to identify what we need, but this will not assuage the doubters.

Oh and suddenly seeing Jan in Benfica kit was a small stab to the heart. :(

@40M this makes no sense. Could have just ponied up for Wilson, got a homegrown player who has already done it in the Prem, and we would have saved 15-20M. Madness.

I can understand the sentiment. This only really makes sense if Jose rates him much more highly than the likes of Wilson and King, which to be fair he must do if we’re prepared to spend big money on him. Time will tell if it’s the correct decision but assuming this continues to progress I’m glad that Levy seems to be prepared to back Jose.

Tbf, that 40 mil number has just been thrown out there as far as I can tell. Let's see what the real price is before we start to piss and moan.

Totally agree. We shouldn’t assume Levy will blow that kinda wedge on Rondon v2. He will try to strike a sensible deal that doesn’t leave us with empty coffers. There is simply no way, he or Jose for that matter would sanction that huge of a deal for someone unproven, and with such a small body of work on which to base a decision on.
If it was for Daka, then yeah, that amount would make some sense as he is very young and is clearly a helluva player who more likely than not will be a star.
Lets be patient and trust that folks who know a shit ton more than us, will do what is right for the team and the business. No matter what, they know just how critical it is to have a second striker and will act accordingly, but on their terms.

Out of all the managers we've had over the past 30 years, I trust Mourinho the most in the transfer market.

He's 'been there, done it' all over Europe and won plenty of trophies in the process.

So if he thinks this lad can bring some extra quality and another dimension to the squad, then I'm all for it.

JJ: «FWIW it’s not under the radar anymore ??- don’t get hung up on YouTube too much either ?»

Just hope it’s Tottenhams first choice and not just the guy Mendes decided to put here... Personally don’t like the strong Mendes connection to be honest.

Edit: Wolves failed to get a work permit for him last summer, apparently. Would be a bit strange if that situation is different now, given that he still doesn’t play for Brazil.

Could this be the 3rd party issues? I think dragon alluded to?

1. Jose knows more about football than me
2. The guys in my Fantrax league will have the same reaction as most on here, allowing me to pick him up for free

For those reasons, I’m in!

Still wondering how he will get around the issue of a work permit what with not being capped by Brazil. Were murmurs Wolves tried for him last summer but couldn't push ahead due to the WP issue.

There are ways around that depending on the fee and wage.

May be controversial but I’m sick of this Daka talk, I wasn’t impressed with his touch in the videos I’ve seen. Most goals running in behind defences. We don’t need that. We need Mr scrappy and strong with a good touch and link up play.
This guys YouTube videos are the only ones I’ve seen like that so far. He’s not actually old and does score goals. I’m not overalls excited because we have Kane but he seems a better fit than most we’ve been linked to.

But Daka runs fast which means he must be the bollocks to the FIFA kids on here.

The most telling part of this video is the stiff arm directly to the CH. Granted, Portugal isn’t known for its defending or goal keeping, seems like a physically strong player which I think is one of the more important requirements. Jose has been most successful with big strong CF/ST.
The most telling part of this video, is that he’s a massive Lightning McQueen fan...

Never watched the player so can’t judge, but seems an odd one. I would have thought we’d be targeting someone who could play alongside Kane as well. Let’s see.

It’s not that I have too much reservation with the player, though I definitely do have some concerns, it’s the idea of paying £40 million for an uncapped 25-year-old with only 1 season of production...

Hopefully there’s some Mendes trickery afoot, because I don’t want this to be our only signing this window.

We won’t be paying that for him surely?

They signed him for €17m though and apparently turned down €60m in January (assumed to be wolves but the club is unknown) so he’s going to be more expensive than that you’d think. Although I saw one report linking him to wolves last summer for £9m and lots of links to him going there in August should Jimenez leave.

This article is pretty interesting actually. Mendes seems to want him clients out of Benfica.

Got my hopes up with Edouard so this is quite underwhelming. But he has the potential to be a good signing in the long run. It’s just that we have been linked with more exciting strikers and all the positive itk about an ”under the radar” striker that is good got me thinking it was something more special. But will not write him off, could be good.
