When are we likely to find out anything regarding a work permit then? Could be a nervous wait, no?

I feel a little for Poch, he must wonder what would have been for him if this window happened last year. Whether he would have been as decisive about the targets is another matter though. The key is that CV seems to be Jose's number one which means he set himself a realistic striker target and not Dybala.

I'm not sure - last year Poch had his 'buy now pay later' in Lo Celso. Of course also had two players he had long (apparently) coveted in Ndombele and Sessegnon (which at £80m+ for both isn't really something that can be grumbled about in terms of resources given).

I don't think there's that much difference in the windows other than, as you say, Mourinho seems to be happy with more 'achievable' targets, but a lot of that is because his reputation likely makes a lot of them more achievable. I'm not so sure there would have been a mutual Bale/Poch interest, for example.

I think Skiriniar is our Dybala of sorts this time around, but hopefully the ending will be different.

Dan KP: Tottenham set to complete Carlos Vinicius loan transfer with £40m option to buy

This seems to be what we've been angling for on a ST - Loan with option.

Strikers are a big outlay and very hard to guarantee whether they can score in the PL, so this is the best of both worlds for us i think. Cover this season and a player who has a chance to step up and show the world he can deliver - if it works out, £40m (not sure on structure of this £££) for someone you know and has proven themselves isn't too bad for a striker.

Switches on SSN for the first time for ages.

Sees Michael Bridge discussing CV and says JM and Spurs will have had a fantastic transfer window if they get him and a defender.

Anton Tououi reaction... raised eyebrows, disbelief face...Manure t..t

Switches off.

I switched off afer the Man UTD fan went off on a little rant about the board. Sounded like a whiney little child.

How can anyone no matter how biased or staged make out that we haven't had a great window with a straight face now we have a back up striker and I still think highly likely a top quality CB still to come.. We have arguably improved our squad and first eleven far more than Chelsea and we haven't even spent half the money!!!

There's a Benfica player called 'Vertongen' or something, we should have a look at him maybe

Jan has a nice 3 year contract, warm weather and a much easier league , just right for him , no more having to try and keep out the likes of Mane , Salah and Firmino unless Benfica get Liverpool in Europe.

I don't really know much about this guy and having a bit of a read up he has kind of popped up out of nowhere started off as a defender, then being used as a midfielder and an attacking mid to a striker in a very few short years. It's not normally what you get with strikers but i guess somebody spotted his potential a bit like bale who gradually just got more and more forward and improved incredibly with his shooting. What i do like from what i have read and seen is he has good pace but also a lot of strength and height obviously as he was a defender before. This certainly sounds like the kind of striker Mourinho likes to have in his squad.

He sounds like the Brazilian Paul Warhurst

That's what's worrying, not sure Gedson is PL quality for us challenging as a top team so how good are Benfica players.
Gedson is just a kid who joined only in Jan. Give the guy a chance. He's done more so far than Sessegnon and yet we don't get the same negative comments about him. I swear some of our fans are too impacient for young signings.

All of this is going to make the Weghorst announcement seem really strange. #WishingOnAWeghorst

Weghorst Wednesday passed like a Harry Winks north circular special. Think of the food marketing ops we’ve missed with Weggy? Levy could have banged those sausages out for £15. Soggy bap and 1 little ketchup?.

I tried watching it and it was horrendous. Can’t help but look at Bridge’s face and you can see he’s hating every minute of being on there. gotta get paid though.

Why do you think he hates being there?

Not being a git, genuinely want to know. Is he a spurs fan? Or does he dislike spurs but is having to say nice things? Or is he just more credible than the usual sky tosh?

I haven't been this excited about a Portuguese striker signing since Helder Postiga.

I seem to remember that the only good thing about that transfer was when we offloaded him in exchange for Pedro Mendes.
