Iwatched a Chelsea game a while back and Giroud had chance after chance but eventually scored the winner .
I think Vinicius had one real chance and is being lambasted as had been said let him play in a game where there is chance after chance it is unfair to judge any striker in a Jose team as in the last few games we have only had 1 to 2 realistic scoring opportunities.
Our xg rating is alarming and just reinforces how defensive we play . Hit it up to Drogba at Chelsea / hit it up to Zlatan at inter / Hit it up to Kane at Spurs / and hope their brilliance will get you a goal and then go full on defensive .
It is alarming that these players seem so clueless and are paying the price with fans calling them crap .
I dont buy that its the organ grinder not the monkeys . This dross is making me not want to watch . Well done Jose .

I said to friends that people might start criticising Vinicius after his first start, in a game where the whole team were poor, including Son.
Maybe there were times he could have done better, but can anyone tell me how many through balls or crosses were put in to Vinicius?
Where was the movement off him?
We had hardly any corners or free kicks for anyone to attack.
When we go on the counter we have to be so accurate and precise, players try too hard and put themselves under too much pressure, often choosing the wrong option and sometime panicking and wasting the chances. I accept they have to do better and it's not the manager's fault entirely, but we are hardly attacking and or getting into good positions, even when Kane has been playing. I'd like to see the stats for number of shots in a game for the last 10 matches, I'll be surprised if they are in double figures.
The likes of Vinicius and Bale to a lesser extent, need games and after several starts in a row, if they are still not doing, then we know they just aren't cut out for it.

The whole team are under too much pressure the way we are playing. The defense is constantly pushed back, the front line is expected to feed of tiny scraps and hit the net every time and the midfield don't know whether to twist or stick, support the front line or man the pumps at the back. It's a hopeless way to play football. Let your opponents have the ball and wait for them to make a mistake?? Give me a fucking break.

As I said in the Bergwijn thread. It's almost impossible to judge a forward with this set up. I'm not convinced Vini is going to make it, but a large part of me is reserving judgement until I see him get some proper service and support.

I posted this on another site a few weeks ago.

He was a centre back up until the age of 20 so he’s had almost 6 years playing as a striker and in which time he’s scored:

Real SC (loan) - 3rd division - 20 in 38 games
Napoli (£4m) - Serie A - didn’t play, loaned out
Rio Ave (loan) - top flight - 14 in 20 games
Monaco (loan) - top flight - 2 in 16 games
Benfica (£15m) - top flight - 24 in 49 games

He’s in effect had 1 season in a decent team and scored 24 goals and created 13 assists for a team who finished 2nd in the league and is expected to slaughter everyone barring Porto.

It’s one thing holding the ball up and bullying defenders in Portugal and another in the EPL.

Come the summer he will be 26, still only had 1 full season in top flight football and we’re expected to pay £50m for him?

No, we can choose to pay the agreed maximum price if he's successful in the premier League. If he hasn't done well at the end of the loan we can send him back, or try and negotiate a lower price.

Part of me wonders if he was a bit of a gamble, a stop gap measure till this summer when you have the likes of Milik available on a bosman, and Ings entering the last year of his contract. If Vinicius had worked out we may have been tempted to activate the clause, if not we haven’t wasted a load of money on him.

I stand corrected Gedson and this fella have been sensational loan signings.

How does that help Benfica then? I wish I could have my pants pulled down by being given a years trial of something before I decided if I wanted to buy it.
Some transfers work out some don't, these two deals are pretty much as risk free as it gets.

Why would he when we have a striker available

because Bale is a world class forward who has become better around the box, good in the air etc etc. --- and there is no other manager in the Prem who'd start Vin before him. It's idiocy and obstinacy and exactly what so many of us who
were skeptical about this Levy choice were worried about - he has sidelined Alli, failed to get the best out of Bale, picks his favorites regardless of form - in short what he has been doing for ages

Yes bale is a world class forward around 2 years ago, he might get back to that level but is currently not showing any sign to suggest that he will anytime soon, and even if he is currently at a better level, he doesn’t have the physicality required to lead the line. He doesn’t have the strength to hold off the CB when playing with his back to goal and can you imagine bale battling the CB for long balls for a whole match, he will just go down injured in the 38 mins. It’s similar when Son was asked to do the same job, this simply doesn’t work. You can blame Jose for a lot of things but this just isn’t one of them.

Even if Vini has not yet had enough regular starts to really prove his worth, Levy probably would not (due to the financial hit from the pandemic) have been keen on shelling out the option price anyway - even if Vini would have set the world alight.

I am sure we paid a substantial loan fee and picked up their wages. They also took up squad places.
I don't know who scouted them but if that's the best they can find god help us.

He was Jose's first choice by all accounts.

We paid around £3m to loan Vinicius.

Maybe we should wait until his second league start before writing him off?

Not the point. You were attempting to spread fake-news with your negative (agenda driven) narrative.

Good, bad or otherwise the "option to buy" was in THFC interest.
