Besides the other elephant in the room (Poch) this is my biggest concern moving forward based on some of the recent transfer activity. The club, like all clubs will have to evolve, but they really need to nail the investment once CE leaves. I think Toby will leave a hole, but at least we have begun to blood Foyth and Davinson has shown some of his potential.

It's a ball ache but it was going to happen eventually.
Really good point, Vinny. We have to invest smartly

I’m already looking forward to the excuses this summer:

- we’re waiting for the UEFA Nations League to finish
- we’re waiting for the other bigger clubs to do their business first
- we’re waiting for prices to come down

Then later in the window:

- prices are too much
- wage demands are too much
- agent’s fees are too much
- our targets are waiting to see if they get better offers
And then finally:
We tried but just couldn’t get the deals over the line

;)

Agreed. Sadly I have very little confidence that we will re-invest the money in a way that does not have an adverse effect on the team, in whichever way we try to cushion to blow (be that trying to sign a similar player or going for different types/positions and reconfiguring the team accordingly).
Why the little confidence? One of the commonly voiced criticisms of Levy is that we always break even on transfers. So, unless he breaks the habit of a lifetime, the money from the sales of Eriksen, Toby, Mousa and whoever else will be there to be reinvested. Then it's down to whether we all choose to have the same faith in the scouts that Hercules does and a realisation/willingness to acknowledge that we've already replaced the latter two with Sánchez and Sissoko respectively.

Way to risky , if it’s improved terms Eriksen’s after (in mind he’s on 75k a week) then I’d rather we agree financial terms with Eriksen.

Of course but I'm not sure he's motivated by money as much as other players. Obviously he wants to be paid what he's worth but I'd be very surprised if we haven't offered him close to what Kane is on. In my view he should be level with Kane as equal top earner, no debate about it but I think he's been offered between Kane and Alli so far.

My understanding is that he is willing to sign a new deal with us but only if his preferred option doesn't make a bid for him this summer. It appears that team is Real Madrid so if he do want him then they certainly won't be keeping Isco as well with him apparently already wanting out. Personally I think we should be going for him anyway but we're not exactly short in attacking midfield areas.

We just need to plan as a club. We’ve got 18 months to find a solution or/and a new way to play.

I’m all for buying from the Championship for example and not overpaying but Eriksen is a player that we can’t cut corners on replacing, he’s just that good. Moneyball wont work with this one.

Absolutely. He's become one of our standout players and not only that, he's one of the very few we have with quality vision and a great range of passing, from deep and in attacking areas.

He's the one concern i have about our squad at the moment, 100% a player we must make every effort to keep, or replace with proven quality.

Poch on Eriksen: "Football is dynamic. It's about interests the manager sometimes can't manage. Eriksen is important to us. You'd like this type of player with you, but it's a negotiation. It would be fantastic if he commits long-term but he has every right to do what he wants."

From Ally Gold.

Worrying, suggests to me we are pushing hard to keep him but he wants to keep his options open.

Yup. For my money him and Kane are our most difficult (impossible) to replace assets but if he's prepared to run his contract down and leave on after next year I am not sure if we have the option to not sell him because we'll desperately need the money to try and reinforce the squad as best we can.

If there are offers on the table I'd sell him. No point carrying forward with a player, all be it of his class, that doesn't envision his future with us.

Agreed. I don't want to lose Toby but I think we can absorb the loss. Eriksen on the other hand would be a huge concern, especially with De Jong off the table, who was the ideal replacement for him in his new deeper role IMHO.

I hope we hold on until the summer and hope nothing materialises from RM, and get him a big new deal. He still appears to be enjoying himself here, it's understandable he'd want to keep his options open too.

#thfc Poch on Eriksen: “He’s happy here, showing his commitment. Then what’s going to happen between him & the club is not only in our hands.... It'll be fantastic if [he] is going to be committed with the club for a long-term, and if not it’s his right to do what he wants to do”

More Poch quotes. Only hope of keeping him is if no serious offer from RM/Barca arrives.

Don’t understand your post as it implies Eriksen has no say in the matter. We may want to sell but he doesn’t have to agree.

Of course he has a say in the matter. Let me rephrase "we would be dumb not to encourage all those involved to pursue an earlier buy than wait and be left with nothing." They obviously don't have to and can wait but I'd wager Madrid after a season of sort of floundering would love the opportunity this summer to make some buys and look big again.

If he has only one club he would go to rather than sign a new contract with Spurs then the fee we would get would be pitiful compared to his real value.

Agree but pitiful money and time > no money and a season of incessant speculation of him leaving to me but we are all free to think differently on the matter.

Hope it doesn't come to this but if we do have to let him go, I would like to see us go for Morgan Gibbs-White.

Not like-for-like but I think he has the potential to be up there with Alli in terms of impact and Poch could work wonders with that kind of talent.

I don’t begrudge him going to a bigger club, but if it plays out like that it will leave a bit of a bitter taste.

If he goes about it the right way then good luck to him.... but we now need to look to cover ourselves! How much do you think he’d go for with 18 months left of contract
