Pleased with this. We needed better depth in defense and particularly at LCB. We’re getting a highly experienced player cheaply for a year.

I’m probably gonna be wrong, but I have a feeling he might, if he gets the game time, be the surprise package signing this season. Will probably take a little while to get up to speed, but I think once he settles he could be really good. Really depends where he is mentally and what Conte can do with him.

I think he’s going to be awesome for us. Haven’t been this confident about a signing since Gio Lo Celso.

I swear watching him at Sevilla vs Man U in the champions league I thought I was watching Vertonghen 2.0..

Brighton and Everton’s best player, no problem. A loan from a cash strapped giant for an unwanted CB and a young RWB from the Championship who is not wanted by his club, big problems - very Spursy this.
I think you’ve been a bit of a clock here.

Agreed. If he finds confidence I think he’ll be very good for us, as he likes to come out of defence like Romero, and with his truly elite passing I think he’ll really help us break down teams.

Again not really much for us there. Unless there’s a restriction on how much they can sell him to the market (doubt that’d be overly enforceable from an anticompetitive point of view) then it’s only if they choose to sell him to us then that would bite? Not saying that it’s beyond the realms - but again, doesn’t seem much there for us

Yep -

Tottenham have signed France centre-back Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a season-long loan.

The deal is reported to have an option-to-buy clause included.
Lenglet, 27, struggled to cement his place in Barcelona's first XI last season, starting just seven La Liga matches.

The Catalan club signed Lenglet from Sevilla for 35.9m euros (£32m) in 2018 and added a 300 million euro (£265m) release clause to his contract.

Read that and saw 2018 signing thinking his contract must be up soon but checked and says it runs to 2026 so must have been renewed in the last year or so. I am a little surprised we didn’t get an option on him at this stage as loans tend to be structured that way these days but either way I’m sure 30-40m would be enough for them to deal - just depends on if he has a good season the likes of Chelsea may also be interested. But for now we have some more depth for next season which is great

I found something which says that a few contracts were extended including his last year.

Someone may already have said but it looks like it was a mechanism for them to reduce the salary burden by paying it over a longer period.

Says his revised salary is under €6m, about £93kpw

The only issue for me is I don't think our defence is elite. We haven't strengthened to a necessary level at CB (yet).

I know our defence did well under Conte last season, but on an individual quality basis it's still lacking and over the course of a season I do feel Davies and to a lesser extent Dier will make mistakes that the likes of City and Liverpool's back line won't.

Lenglet is a welcome addition, we will have to see if he is first choice over Davies.

For me, going into this summer, LCB, CM, AM, RWB and LWB were the positions we badly needed to upgrade. And we also needed another attacker for depth, and personally I wanted an upgrade on Dier but I understand others might disagree on that one.

LWB - Perisic
CM - Bissouma
Attacker - Richarlison

Undoubted quality in those positions now adding depth.

RWB will likely be Spence, but not sure that's an upgrade.
LCB - Lenglet, unsure yet how much of an upgrade that is on Davies.

We still need an AM and I still think we need a top CB to come in. I think otherwise our defence will be found a bit lacking this season in those tight games. CB is so important.

If we sign a top CB, Lenglet can cover both LCB and CCB.
