Decent squad player? Yes. Anything more? No. I was hoping he was gonna step up after a few good games very early this season. Never happened and as many have said is no better than Ben.

Personally prefer him to ben davies at LCB but with the HG factor and the fact Davies can play LB/LWB, I'd reluctantly let Langlet go as he's been a good servant and try to upgrade Davies/LCB with a £40m+ player. I agree he's not a big upgrade over Davies in LCB

Don't understand the "meh" about him, he's much better than Davidson and Tanganga!!!

Which is fair, but considering he's on loan, I'm not sure we need to add more decent-ish CBs to the squad.

Send him back, keep Davies, and sign Bastoni or Gvardiol
Feel like I must be the only one that doesn’t get the hype with Bastoni. He’s decent on the ball and all that but he looks slow as fuck and a clumsy defender to me. Think both N’dicka and Kilman are much better left footed options for us this summer

Made a mistake last night that almost cost his team a goal. Got away with it by making exaggerating the contact.

I would prefer a more mobile defender yes.
And I agree about Kilman.

The level of tanganga and Davidson is a pretty low one to measure against, placing him ahead of them isnt much to write home about.

Hes better on the ball than davies (slightly), but hes a worse defender (a bit more than slightly) imo....means hes in the mix as a squad player but given that Ben covers two positions and doesnt require a transfer fee to keep, cant really think of much reason we'd see lenglet here next season.

Unless we've signed nobody for the position, and barca are willing to give us another cheap loan, but that would a damming indictement on our summer transfer activity...

I actually watched most of the 60 minute highlights of the game on Sky sports after posting that and not only that but at least 2 of Porto’s biggest chances came from down his side while he was woefully out of position and nowhere to be seen tracking back. Really don’t think he’s what we need at all. We need a more well rounded CB. Someone that’s quick and a good defender would be first on my list over a good passer like Bastoni. Kim-MJ, Kilman, N’dicka, Ibanez would all be way ahead of Bastoni for me this summer and probably only Ibanez would have a question mark over his ability on the ball, but he’s a bloody quality defender, so I don’t think I’d care that much tbh

Yeah Ibanez is a great shout. Personally think he's good enough on the ball

He’s slow as fuck and isn’t a good enough defender to make up for it which are enough reasons for us to stay away.
but let’s be honest here and call a spade a spade, Ben is no where near lenglet’s level on the ball, lenglet has got an excellent first touch, great technique when he drives forward and almost always on point when passing short or long unlike Ben who routinely needs three touches to control a pass and by that time the oppositions are in his face so he rushes the pass and put us under pressure. This happens every time when we play against teams that press us, It’s his misplaced pass that resulted in Romero getting a yellow against city and also his misplaced pass that resulted us conceding against Leicester. So no, lenglet isn’t just slightly better on the ball than Ben.

if we are to progress into a team more Comfortable in possession then Lenglet is significantly better with the ball. Davies edges him on defence but Davies makes plenty of costly mistakes. if money no object I’d upgrade both, but unlikely with dead weights of Tanganga and Sanchez also needing upgrade. Lenglet over Davies for me and a new LCB to join him.

Think Lenglet has done alright, but would probably struggle if a new manager would come in and play a high-line back four.

Given our tactical and defensive mess with struggling players behind, to the left and to the right of him, I think he is doing alright. Wouldn't mind if we keep him over Sanchez personally.
Not a world beater but could imagine he will be more solid if we have a better forundation at the back.

Fair enough, i definitely see the technique hes got, if you want to push the variances out further which you also seem to be doing on defending im not precious enough to debate about the margins.

The point is though that both have big flaws. But Ben is on a perm contract, and we would need to spend money to keep lenglet.

Id say the same thing if lenglet was our player and ben the loanee - its not worth our time and money sorting out a deal for the loanee when we're picking between these two players.

I totally agree that we shouldn’t go for lenglet, it’s just that Ben frustrates the hell out of me sometimes, that a premiership level player who started out as a fullback still can’t do the basics right after so many years of playing.

lol i do get it, he annoys me too, he has his moments, good and bad. If Romeros red against city had cost us points the knives wouldve been out (and rightly so) as that was so unncessary. And even then, not that Romero alone could necessarily have saved it but really didnt help us having him suspended for the leicester game which is on Ben.

What I've seen of Bastoni this season has been very average. When we were first after him I thought he'd be a great signing but now that I've paid more attention to him I've done a 180 on that. Ndicka looks impressive though, not least because he's got so much pace. Kilman would cost a bomb wouldn't he, but I expect Ndicka wants a King's ransom on a Bosman too.
