I really really like him but it was Romero that followed Bissouma half way round the pitch, didn’t get a challenge in and allowed him to shoot, for his (heavily deflected) goal!!

He also slipped being far too aggressive to try and win the ball early which resulted in a guilt edged chance for Moupay

Romeros positives will far outway the negatives and that is what you want but when his over enthusiasm etc results in a mistake and goal for the oppo the knives will be well and truly out, in here….
The only one I have seen so far with knives out for him is you with your unnecessary nit picking

I thought he was excellent yesterday. I’ve always thought he looks small for a CB, but when you see him talking to people (Bentancur’s arrival at the training ground, Spurs tv showing the players walking in to the stadium etc) he’s actually quite tall. He’s an aggressive bugger too! Every tackle is full pelt.

I just love the guy. He's so composed on the ball under pressure and is a great reader of the game. When he plays, I feel like I used to when Ledley played. So much more confident that we will cope under pressure. With Dier alongside, we have a great pairing.

Would like to see Romero played at the centre of the three with another hybrid CB/FB to the right. Davies’ ability to go forward and join Reguilon and Son to overload the opponents RB can be a useful tool to use. If the player on the right could do so along with Emerson and Lucas alternately with the left side I’d like to see how that would work. Sanchez and Romero both advanced upfield when they could at times, but a player more naturally adept and comfortable at that would be a great addition in the summer. Would be nice if Tanganga could develop in to that player, but I’m not sure.

Didn't Romero push forward when at Atalanta, Or was it just that he would attack the ball?

I would still play him on the right of the 3 and let Davies and Romero get forward with the other CB having to sit.

At Atlanta they played 3 at the back but he middle CB pushed up to confront opponents in midfield, and this was the role Romero played. Conte's back 3 plays differently, he expects the middle CB to play more as a sweeper and be a deep lying play maker, whereas the wide CBs are expected to join attacks and be more aggressive.

Love his reading of the game and the way he snaps in aggressively. Gives players no breathing time on the ball. Could be immense in the run in.

My only concern with him in that central position is the way he comes out to attack the ball. If he misses we're wide open as we saw when he slipped. I would keep him right centre back but I do still prefer in central to any others if Dier is out. With Sanchez we have a good replacement for right centre back so no issue with that. Right centre back is the 1 position at the back where we have genuine good competition.

When he goes for it, he usually wins it. Those interceptions and challenges are very quick, he's out before the opposition know it and springing us on another counter.

He's going to give away the odd penalty and get booked regularly, but that's just his nature and style of play.

As has been mentioned, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Despite a couple of mistakes he still had a fantastic game on Saturday.

Makes you realise the gulf in class between him and the rest of our cbs.
He is proactive, bursts forwards and intercepts the ball. Everyone else stands and watches, reacting after the opp player gets the ball.
He is gonna be huge.

When he does fuck up it will probably look terrible, but it will be sensible to remember how many times he gets it right.

LOL. for any of us who were forwards, you watch that and just think that while part of you would love to play against that guy, there's a slightly louder voice saying, f*** i would hate to play that guy.

my one hope is that Conte gets him playing smart with regards to cards, fouls etc. if he does, he's world class.

I find it so weird with Romero, I feel like we've rarely had a glimpse of him and that it's crazy that he's our player. Watching against Brighton it felt like we had a ringer playing for us, he is that good.

If Romero is to play as the middle of back 3 then perhaps Royale could be a good right sided CB, much like Davies is on left. I see that as much more likely to be his long term position if he is is to make it with us. I think Conte is going to want a more offensive wing back

To your point: I wonder if Conte may one day consider converting Royal to a RCB? He has the height and physicality for it. He's 6ft, so is Japhet. Romero is 6.1ft. Kyle Walker has shown that a RB with his body type can play in that position.

My concern with Royal, is that he currently lacks the dribbling, passing and crossing ability to be a 'great' RWB. Hence, I understand the need for move for one this summer. Just wonder in the future, what will be his best role. At 22, he's still so young, and can be developed. Be interested to see where he is and what position he is playing 3 years from now.
