This is so misleading. He doesn't say this at all. I dug deeper....

The actual quotes, to me his quotes imply we are a concrete option for Gollini, but he does not say we are in talks for Romero. I am sure we are in talks, but the chairman doesn't actually say it like twitter are making out.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi confirms Pierluigi Gollini is close to joining Tottenham, while offers for Cristian Romero ‘must match the player’s value.’

La Dea and Tottenham are in talks for both the goalkeeper and centre defender, but Gollini seems much closer to moving to North London than his teammate.

“There are many options that we are evaluating. Gollini is an important player for us, but there is nothing decided yet. Tottenham are a concrete option,” Percassi said after the unveiling of Atalanta’s kits for 2021-22.

“Romero is one of the best defenders in Serie A and it’s normal that many clubs are interested in signing him. Atalanta allowed him to develop and play Champions League football,” Percassi continued.

“Let’s see what happens, if we are to sell players, we must do it in a smart way and offers must match the players’ value.”

According to the latest reports, Romero is one of Tottenham’s targets, but the two clubs haven’t reached an agreement over the player’s price tag. For this reason, talks between the two clubs are ongoing.

Romero joined Atalanta in 2020 from Juventus on loan with an option to buy. He was named best defender of the 2020-21 Serie A campaign.

“I wish Fabio Paratici the best because he deserves so, we are trying to bring useful players to Atalanta,” the Atalanta director continued.

Don't want to start counting my chickens until he is hopefully formally announced, but what a signing this would be. The guy is absolutely top tier and still so young that we could build our defence around him for years to come. He could have the same impact that Van Dijk had for Liverpool, an absolute colossus that brings out the best and composure from whoever plays alongside him, and gives the fullbacks the confidence to attack.

Hotspur related has to be one of the worst sources for spurs news on the internet. They’re always embellishing stories.

Money usually is the issue, same with my ambition for a Ferrari, but the dealership said it would have to be a very important bid for them to consider it.

Wait, you mean they won’t accept a 1997 Astra and 50% asking price spread over 6 years??!

Greedy Italians!

Wow, can you imagine any club president or chairman, after spending a few days in negotiations, saying "I wish Daniel Levy the best because he deserves so...". Starting with getting Romero over the line, perhaps Paratici is really going to be our saving grace :)

I literally know nothing about this player, I hope he is good and settles better than some of previous signings.

Just to give some clarification on this, he was a name I was given over the last few days. Due to the nature of my source, I will naturally get info a lot later than some of the other very good ITK on here so often you will see me confirming whether reports on a player are true etc rather than throwing out names that aren't in the press yet. We are looking at several options at CB but Romero is someone Paratici has a lot of time for and we have held talks regarding him. As has been mentioned, Sanchez is available this summer and is being touted as an option in some of these deals. To summarise, nothing groundbreaking but this guy is a serious option and what's more, he would actually join us.

To confirm what I mentioned last week again, Paratici is impressing behind the scenes. He IS being given the freedom to run the footballing side of the club but of course DL naturally is being kept in the loop regarding finances. Paratici has an unreal set of contacts and he apparently really doesn't stop working. I think we will start to see some incomings and outgoings over the next 7-10 days ?.

Also, a very good friend of mine has a very good chance of landing a job at the club and if he accepts, he will be the closest contact I have and I may then get info earlier. I've been pestering him everyday to accept.
Make him blue, make him blue. I jest (no really, make him blue), but have really enjoyed reading your posts this summer. We’ve clearly got fingers inside lot of defender pies, but this is the one that excites the most. Game changer if comes off. Can you not send the application in on your friends behalf?

40M-ish for Romero seems like a no-brainer. Guessing the question isn’t really on that part of the price but instead how much the makeweight (if applicable) might soak up - Would expect there’d be some gap to how the teams are looking at it.

Dav was pretty strong in a crazy high line back 3 - he might be a great fit there. Toby less so with the high line but maybe his passing in a back 3 would have major value.
