Sanchez and Dier walk would into the Argentina national team. Wow, that is a crazy take. Dier can’t even get into the England squad ffs.

Talk about people getting ahead of themselves, yes we look a lot tighter at the back because of Conte’s coaching and organisation but the overrating of our defenders recently is crazy.

We still have a fairly average group of centrebacks who makes mistakes regularly. They aren’t suddenly world class….yes we’ve seen an upturn in form but why are you so quick to downplay Romero’s ability? He’s by far our best centre back.
They play Germain Pezzella and Nicolas Otamendi. In 2021/2022. That is the state of Argentina's CB pool. Yes, both Dier and Sanchez would start, that's not even a slightly controversial take IMO.

I am in full agreement that Romero is our best CB. I just don't agree with saying he is better than someone by virtue of where he was born and how strong that country's national team is comparatively.

He has a lot of good attributes for a CB and his reading of the game and positioning is usually spot on.

His mistakes usually come from a lack of strength and balance, but he's mostly in the right place at the right time.

Anyway, I think he's a great squad player, a bit like Ben Davies; a top 6 player who seems to be really professional.

Davies, Dier, Romero, Sanchez and someone like De Vrij is a group of defenders who Conte could turn into a title-winning unit.

Just to make certain, I'd like to see another CB brought in if we have the money.

That would mean our second string would be Davies, Dier and Sanchez, which based on the last 8 games would be ridiculously strong.

Jason Burt on twitter: Newcastle's hopes of signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla are gathering pace.

Sevilla were supposedly very interested in Davinson over the Summer, wonder if that link comes up again.

Or if they're still open to a Kounde swap.

I don't think we need Kounde anymore honestly, at least for the price he would cost. Dier and Romero are good at Cb & RCB, we need a lefty.

Plus I doubt they'd sell both their starting CBs in January.

Diego Carlos will be a disaster for them.

Looks like he's learnt how to head a ball, kick a ball and pass forwards. Few goals as well lately.
Still not sold on him tbh.
Better than he was but meh.

He’s been very good under Conte. If he stays at this level for the rest of the season and beyond, he’s an asset.

He’s quick
He’s spurs

tbh I just watch him and for me his ball control is poor, reminds me of Sissoko.
He looks like he panics when pressed.

I would love him to do really well but I think he’s now at his ceiling of ability.

If we are only looking to sit deep and counter then Sanchez is fine; He can defend mostly despite lack of concentration at certain pivotal moments. However if we want to go beyond that and play pro-actively then we need defenders who are comfortable on the ball which he certainly is not.

In a well coach team he's more than fine as a rotation option. Never understood the clamour to get rid of him. It's clear, as with many of our players who are now performing, that Mourinho drained all confidence out of him.

Didn't show enough desire for the 2nd goal yesterday. If you watch it, he's trying to volley it clear rather than attack it with his head - the ball was never going to drop low enough for that.
Part of the problem with us - we don't have enough desire, not enough players throwing themselves at the ball when defending.

With respect that's his Team ranking - and considering he has featured very frequently under Conte those particular stats are bound to be high. If he played for Liverpool, Chelsea or City we would see him as a weak link for Kane / Son to exploit.

It says it's his Team ranking? Didn't suggest otherwise

Squwaka doesn't let you split Nuno Sanchez from Conte Sanchez, but he's quite clearly our 2nd best performing defender (Dier close behind) behind Romero, per 90, in the league this season. Based on the Sky Sports stats, it suggests that the Nuno period is watering that down heavily (well, and our eyes, because he was shite under Nuno)

He's proper stepped up this season & certainly shut one or two mouths on here. Mine included. Fair play to the guy!

I'm in no position to question anyone's appearance, and this is probably going to be taken way more offensively than I mean it. But that's the one thing he doesn't look like.

He really is a dense looking so & so. Tottenham Hotspur's very own Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue.
