No idea. Not arsed going into each individual game. All I know he's not near as solid as Toby, nowhere near as good on the ball, and if you think him playing didn't contribute in some way to conceding more goals I think you're wrong.

Him playing also would have contributed to others having to pick up slack that Toby normally would have.

Look, I don't rate Sanchez. He makes me nervous when he plays. He has a mistake in him every game and last night highlighted how poor his passing is. Ajax were happy to let Toby have the ball but once Sanchez got it they targeted him. It was plain to see.

I think Foyth is better

If you have no idea you can't make a case then nor can you make a case about others picking up the slack for him.

He's not as good on the ball as Toby I grant you but his pace gets us out of trouble, his distribution does need working on but to say he won't be able to fill in for Toby is nonsense. Not sure how you can rate Foyth above him when Foyth has been directly responsible to goals we've conceded but okay...

I think Foyth is much stronger on the ball. He suits our style much better.

I agree his pace is a big asset but he has to use it too often to get himself out of trouble.

I'd love to eat my words this time next season but judging by his development since last season I can't see it.

People in this thread expecting a 22 year old defender to be as calm and assured as a 30 year old. Travesty.

Even when Toby messes up its Davinson who gets the blame eg West Ham.

You idiots are creating a culture where top class talent cannot develop and then in the next breath you want us to be more like Ajax or Dortmund. Foolishness

It's not an expectation that he should be ad calm and assured as Toby. But he hasn't shown anything for me that he will develop into a player who is calm on the ball.

Toby missed the header v West Ham, but Sanchez wasn't close enough to Antonio for the goal, regardless of how good his touch and finish was. If he's a yard closer he stops that goal.

Don't want to be like Ajax and Dortmund. I want us to be Spurs.

He's young and still learning in the hardest league in the world. Toby, Tripps, Rose, Davies, even Jan all make mistakes. Hugely experienced players. I like his pace and physical presence. Sanchez got some good tackles and clearances in last night. Foyth is good on the ball but has made quite a few errors himself. I'd prefer either of them to Dier. Don't get me started on Dier.....

I'd also ask people to look at De Ligt last night in comparison. He's 19 and looks like 3 times the player Sanchez is. No surprise we were in for him last summer.

He might never be a Foyth, Vertonghen or Toby on the ball but he is good enough to be a CB in a team who play out from the back. Ajax thought so. Poch thinks so. I do too. He has pace, strength and fight. He is strong in the tackle.

If Davinson was one yard off, how many yards off was Toby? It wasn’t really a header missed - Antonio should have been his.

Really surprised to see some of the posts in here... actually I’m not to be honest.

Personally think that over what has been a really shit month for us he has been one of the better players looking far more assured and stating to have authority along the back four. He was exceptional, alongside foyth against city in the league.

This scapegoating marlarky is completely bollocks. Just seem people are just waiting to rip players apart.

Are people picking up on him for that one hospital pass? Sounds about right.

On the other hand, for the remaining 97 mins we played last night he was excellent, as was all of our defensive play. Ajax had barely a sniff in the second half.

Well, they had a sniff of the post with Lloris well-beaten. But, Sanchez did alright overall.

I don't think he was targeted at all he made two passes that were awkward and it was because we'd been out numbered in midfield. Once Pochettinho changed the system he was much better won very airal duel and covered with his pace.

I am actually starting to worry about Alderweireld and Vertonghen. If that was Sanchez heading his own player all hell would break out

The 19 year old De Ligt who was beaten multiple times in the air resulting in headers on goal?

You clearly have made your mind up about Sanchez so I guess it doesn't really matter what anybody says.

We had no headers on goal. They all either went miles over or miles wide.

And for the record I meant in terms of his play with the ball at his feet and his on the ground defending. Nothing got passed him.

Ok, wrong terminology on my part. He was beaten in the air multiple times resulting in attempted headers on goal. Dont actually address the real point of my post then.

Three times the player, get a grip - one of the most embarrassingly kneejerk posts I've seen in a while. You're just chatting absolute bollocks based on the hype around de Ligt. de Ligt was marking a tree with legs whilst Davinson did well against a very mobile, fluid front 3.

Maybe 3 times was an exaggeration. But he's much better than Sanchez regardless of who he was marking.
