Positioning is something that can be coached - Like Poch did with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose. Sanchez's career will be 10x the career that Foyth has. Foyth has transferred to some shit Italian/Spanish midtable team written all over him.

How you get to that with Foyth I have no idea
Let's see
I've been more concerned about his temperament

I'm inclined to get Foyth more gametime or simply getting Toby & Verts back together in the CB-pairing. But that requires a world class LB.

Sanchez with another poor game today.

Without having seen the game I’d imagine he was pulled from pillar to post today with our lack of pace at the back

Plus with the huge amount of pressure our back 4 was under all afternoon he couldn’t have been that poor!!!

Still learning but I like him a lot and I’m sure Jose will improve him even more

Aurier can't defend and it's not helping Davinson to looks good, but he's still the best defender this season

He did fine when he had to defend and not make to much of it.

But he was shitting his pants every time he got the ball.

- 2 direct errors leading to chances
- Getting outmuscled & played by Jotta
- Can't make a forward pass, only the long balls

The quartet of sanchez, aurier, sissoko and dier DO worry me when they are passing it about in our our half.
N'dombele is desperatly needed to pick up the ball anf transition it forwards.

Sanchez is being found out both with and without the ball. Gets sucked in, rolled and out muscled by too many forwards.

Gives the ball away so much, that teams set up to allow him to have the ball rather then Toby. This is the opposite when he plays for Colombia

I’ll preface this by saying I like Sanchez and think he’s played well this year and has a big future ahead.

But the line of “he’s been our best defender this year” is just like everyone saying all Summer that Winks is integral to the way we play. It’s false.

Sorry but I just don't see what others do in him. He doesn't make his height or his weight count. Found out of position too often. Fails to win too many balls in the air. We need to upgrade on him this summer.

I think he's a good defender and is now getting a consistent run of games which will only help him improve.

That said, it's been clear for a while that he's had his limitations. His reading of the game is not great at times, and is most certainly not comfortable with the ball at this feet. He can occasionally get outmuscled at times, but this is an area where he'll eventually get better at with time. However, you cannot magically fix the first 2 problems. It can only be mitigated by the players around him and specifically a good DM/CM combination ahead of him.

Dier and Sissoko can be guilty of passing the ball back way too often and putting the defense under pressure, by inviting and allowing the opposition to close him down. Playing the duo of Dier and Sissoko just does not help. And neither does Aurier who's half way up the pitch. While we're at it, lump Winks in there as well.

Ideally TN, when fit, would replace Sissoko in midfield and alleviate some of the pressure by linking up quickly with the forward line. This would allow Dier to help out defensively and give the ball to TN in situations where he's unwilling to take the risk of moving the ball forward.

It's very difficult to find a defender in the mold of VVD or similar. And even if there is, Levy's never paying 80million to get one.

Him and Sissoko have to cover too much ground each game, because Aurier is constantly out of position when the team is defending. I have noticed Aurier stop backtracking and just stand and watch Sissoko/Sanchez try and deal with situations. Certainly not Sanchez's fault that he's having to cover for our right back.

Also, he is clearly not as good on the ball as Alderweireld or Vertonghen. It's better for the team if he kicks the ball upfield instead of trying to take it down with his chest and ends up giving the opposition a chance to score.

I don't think we need to replace him but he can and will improve over time.

The mistake off his chest was terrible, however his recovery and subsequent blocks after the mistake were superb.

It’s a really easy proposition to argue against because all you have to do is state which of our defenders has been better this season with some reasons.
