I hadn't thought about it previously but maybe Ange thinks Emerson can cover RCB til Jan?

Seems risky to me in a back 4, but maybe he knows something we don't

Absolutely criminal we didn’t push through a 3rd CB signing. I just don’t get it. We are so close with Ange and this team. How we would leave ourselves this thin with 100M of Kane dollars in the bank is infuriating.

its going to be a very interesting season. I genuinely think Ange has seen something he likes in Dorrington and Phillips.
On saturday Dier was still nowhere to be seen on the bench and it says he has given his agreement for Sanchez to be moved on. We have a manager who isnt afraid to give talent a chance again and i'm all for it rather than watching the predictable outcome of Sanchez and Diers involvement maybe getting us the odd point but also costing them frequently.

Maybe we give some players with a higher ceiling the exposure they need to step up.

I'd be worried more if Phillips hadn't been playing men's football in the Championship last year. We've seen time and time again that if a player performs in the championship, it's a good indication they'll play well in the Prem. And if Ange has sanctioned it, as Ali G has said he has, then he must trust him too. He's not starting let's remember, he's just the reserve option.

At some point you have to hand the reins over to a young player, and Sanchez has underperformed for 5 seasons and was gone in 12 months anyway. Now is the perfect time.
I agree in general and time will tell. But there a big difference on making the occasional sub appearance and having to play full games.

If a 1st choice player gets injured and Phillips has to play because there are no other options then this could be a big issue.

Hopefully Ange can get Royal or Davies playing the role just in case.

Wow big Dave’s leaving. Unlike some, I love the guy and had no issues with him staying as a backup in this transitional season… Limited ability but always tries his best and never ever complains, model pro and I wish him well.

Definitely a risky move by Ange to sanction this, but it also likely gives Dorrington & Phillips a run at it. Time will tell if it's a genius move or not.

Maybe Phillips is showing enough in training that demonstrates he is ready should he be needed?

Ange isn’t daft; he’ll know an injury or suspension (likely the latter with Romero) leaves us short so he must be comfortable with one of the back ups.

Yes it’s frustrating that this couldn’t have happened while our window was still open but the club and Ange will weigh up being stuck with 2 unwanted players for another year, versus getting through to January and re-evaluating.

He's already played Davies at LCB during pre-season and really wouldn't be surprised if Royal had already played some minutes at RCB in training too. It's not ideal for sure, but the last time we mass cleared out poorly performing players and trusted youth at the start of the Poch era worked out very well. Call me a hopeless optimist haha!

Ange has ok'd it so will have a plan, I expect it'll be Phillips as 3rd choice and Davies covering both 4th choice CB & LB for now. Hell maybe this even clears up a space for Sessegnon to make a surprise return after he's recovered from surgery! (Too optimistic?! Me?! Yeah probably)

One can only assume that they'd rather risk having Phillips (who may have impressed in training) and Dier as cover for 4 months rather than risk not selling now we've found a buyer. Who knows if anyone would be interested in Davinson in January. We'd be in the same situation as a week ago, where we'd have to sell him to get another CB option. That's the only logic I can find.

15m is impossible to turn down for Sanchez. Better to give the youngster a chance than play someone who will go on a free next year. All the other PL teams integrate their academy players earlier than we do

i'm pretty sure Dier is on the naughty step and wont be seen no matter what happens. Club trying to force him out rather than let him leave for free next year.

I think he'll use Emerson at RCB before Phillips. Blackburn fans didn't think he was close to EPL quality yet and they watched him a lot more than any of ours did. Wouldn't mind being wrong though.

F'ing hell. We're getting rid of Dav now.

We're an injury away from being right in the shit.
Scary thought that we could potentially be an injury and suspension away from a few games of Phillips and Dorrington
