You would've thought we'd be offering parity with players like Bentaleb at least (£40k). It's unfair to offer £25k as there are plenty of other clubs who'd be offering him double that.

Why it took Bentaleb to be our best midfielder over the course of a whole season before he got that contract and that was after are drawn out saga, and he received criticism on this forum for asking for too much. We can't give Alli parity straight away

Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony says Tottenham enquired about one of their players recently and says the White Hart Lane club have ‘faith in the Football League’.

Spurs paid £5 million to secure the signing of Dele Alli from MK Dons 12 months ago before loaning the youngster back to the third tier.

Alli is now one of their outstanding players and has already appeared and scored for England since his move to the capital.

And MacAnthony, whose young side are the top scorers in the country with 47, said the role of former Spurs boss David Pleat has been key to Tottenham’s continued interest in the Football League.

“To be fair to Tottenham Hotspur they have faith in the Football League, they did what they did with (Dele Alli) and they were also enquiring about one of our players in November,” he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

“The reason they are doing that because they have people like David Pleat, who is a great fan of the Football League, working under Daniel Levy.

“David Pleat, in my opinion, made the Dele Alli deal happen and could have made another deal happen with one of ours.

“David Pleat is an old school guy but he knows the value of the Football League and some of their players.”

And, of course, Real Madrid is also after Alli now...as there is no secret that they want to buy the whole Spurs team.

Haha.. actual links to Real Madrid in the piece.. zero.

What a confused little ramble... we should suddenly give Alli and all our other youngsters 100k/week after 15 starts? I can imagine that working well both for the club financially, and for the players' incentive to improve. Luckily Barclay is just a hack and Levy is the businessman.

Got lots of time for Pleat. Would happily buy him a pint and let him ramble on about football for hours.

Dele Alli's mother gave Tottenham star up aged 13 so he could fulfil footballing dreams
Denise Alli was suffering with a severe alcohol addiction and allowed her son to live with a fellow footballer so he could fulfil his dreams

The proud mother of Dele Alli has revealed she gave her son up for adoption so he could fulfil his dream of becoming a top footballer.

Alli left the home of Denise when he was aged 13 after social services threatened to remove her children due to her battle with alcoholism.

But now Denise, 52, says that she knows she made the right decision as she is bursting with pride when she watches him play for Tottenham.

Denise admitted that she suffered from a severe booze addiction, revealing that she was "hooked" on vodka, beer or anything she could get her hands on.

And she says it was only right to get him off the streets and into a safer environment.

Speaking to the Sun on Sunday, Denise said: “I knew that was the only way he could fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

“It was tough to give up my son but it proved to be his salvation. I’m so thankful for how things have turned out.”

Alli was handed his England debut earlier this season and scored a scorcher in the Three Lions' 2-0 win over France at Wembley.

Denise said: “When he scored the goal against France I leapt out of my seat — I was so happy. My son has made it by himself. I am so pleased for him and super-proud of everything he has achieved.”

Although Alli was never formally adopted, he lived full-time with the family of fellow footballer Harry Hickford, now 20, six miles away.

Denise revealed that the move to Cosgrove moved him away from the children on the streets of his old estate, who were regularly "smoking, arguing and robbing".

Alli remains close to his biological father, Nigerian businessman Kenny, who now lives in Houstan, Texas. The pair met up during Kenny's trip to England last year.

And kind-hearted Alli helps out Denise too. She says that he has given the family around £4,000 over the past year, including Christmas, birthday and Mother's Day treats.
