Yeah. There seems to be this feeling that Emerson has played his way back into Conte's good graces, yet a lot of media reports suggest that he is fine to leave.

Spence is a weird one as I do not think we'd send him out on loan next season, so reports saying otherwise seem like guess work imo.

I would either keep Emerson and Doherty and sign a quick, attack minded RWB or sell Doherty and sign 2 RWB’s.

People say we only need 2 RWB and 2 LWB but taking into account both the amount of games we’ll have to play and an injury to either or both a R/LWB and we’ll be down to one. They can’t play all the time. It would be sensible to have as a minimum:

2 like for like RWB
2 like for like LWB
1 versatile player who can play both RWB and LWB eg Emerson. He’s also defensively solid

To compete on all fronts we need a squad eg 25 players. With the reported incomings and outgoings they would offset each other and although we would have additional quality we would still be short on numbers.

Max Aarons' problem wasn't staying at promoted Norwich, it was staying at relegated Norwich. His stock was even higher after their first promotion season, even though the team was shit. I could see similar for Spence.
But the point is if you don’t make that move, for whatever reason, there’s no guarantee you get offered it again. If next season he has a max aaron’s 1st year in the prem type season, in that he is rated but not worth £30m, he could go down with a relegated Forest quite easily.

Right now he plays for Championship Middlesbrough with big clubs wanting to sign him, he should sign for one of those rather than Nottingham Forest, despite the affection he has for them. Especially when RB/RWB is there for the taking at us and Arsenal.

If Conte rates him highly and he comes in and puts in the work then there’s every chance he could sculpt him into an Hakimi or a Reece James, such is his talent as a coach.

Emerson with a pre season under Conte could prove to be beneficial. He looked like he was getting the hang of it towards the end of the season.
As a load of people have said he got the best out of Moses so I see no reason to sell. Just add to what we have. IE Perisic.

Agreed with your thoughts on depth. We could sign another lwb and use Perisic as a utility guy and/or if we must keep Emerson, keep Doherty and Emerson and train Emerson up on covering RCB to cover Romero. He’s big enough and has the requisite athletic ability to play there perhaps (particularly if we get rid of Sanchez). We probably can’t get all the depth required of a perennial title contender in one window so getting versatile guys like Perisic will greatly ease that transition.

Looking positive ?
Let’s see
Sounds a breakthrough with 'boro isn't too far away it would seem.

Even going on AG's info of other teams interested, I don't see a more attractive offer unless Newcastle look to blow the competition out of the water and either pay a massive premium to Middlesborough or offer an inflated salary.

Spence may feel some loyalty to Forest and want to play for them in the EPL but he’s at a serious risk of finding himself back in the Championship in 12 months time. Forest have done well to get promoted but they’re nowhere near good enough and will be hot favourites to go straight back down. Look at Fulham, they’re by far the best team in the Championship and they consistently flop in the EPL. I think all 3 promoted teams will struggle but Forest are going to be way out of their depth. Spence would be making the wrong decision to stay with them. A chance to sign for a top 4/6 club doesn’t come around very often, he would be mad to turn it down.

I am a bit sceptical due to Sess and Aarons ripping it up in that league and do not look too special in the PL. But we obviously need some HG players on our books and he is at least affordable and has potential. With good coaching by Conte who knows if he can adapt rapidly like TAA, Robertson or Reece James.

We really need to start to shift some non HGs though...

A lot of posters here are sceptical if this guy is good enough for us but I've seen a lot positivity about Raum. Could Perisic be used on the right and Raum for left wb?
Looks like it might happen though, lets hope Conte is right about him if we do get him.

Please stop shifting Perisic to another position before he is even announced. We bought a world class LWB and want to shoehorn him in somewhere else already, dont get it...

Really!? I think we should be aiming for players who would get on to - say - Man City or Liverpool's bench. I would say that position also needs pace and more technical ability.
Liverpool's back-up options at RB this season were Joe Gomez and James Milner.

Fair enough, we'd take Man City's bench, but then again they have spent £150 million+ on right-backs alone in the last few years.

It does seem odd that we this seems to be the only RWB we have been linked with. I know Doc and Royal played better in the last few games, but i still think its the area we need to improve most of all.

Great response
Yea class from Warnock there tbh. Seems like he's mellowing in retirement. He F and Blinded a lot in his younger days but he's definitely got a hell of a lot of experience to pass on to younger players like Spence etc, sounds like Warnocks comments motivated Spence and put him on the right track so a bit of tough love worked in this case, but class response from Warnock.

Just seeing people struggling to think of good alternatives. How’s Dumfries been since moving to Italy? Thought he looked a good player at PSV and whenever I’ve seen him play for Holland, proper athlete
